    Description
Regarded by many wargamers as THE best fantasy wargame ever made, SSI’s Sword of Aragon is the first 4X game and a true precursor of later classics such as Conquered Kingdoms or SSI’s own Fantasy General.

Set in the Aragonian Empire, you are heir to the late Duke of Aladda, and your task is to once again extend Aladda's dominion and eventually crown yourself king in Tetrada. Executing your father's will properly means raising and equipping an army, then venturing forth to do battle against the dastardly foes threatening Aladda and its surroundings.

Your success in Sword of Aragon depends on careful allocation of precious resources, astute military planning, and deft combat maneuvers. Knights, priests, warriors, mages, rangers, cavalry, infantry, and bowmen are some of the units you can recruit, and in true AD&D fashion, you can equip them with different armor types. Nothing in the game will strike anyone today as a big deal, but back in 1989 it was a revolutionary title that attracted many non-wargamers to the genre.

Excellent AI and addictive gameplay help Sword of Aragon remain one of the most playable and replayable fantasy wargames ever. Two thumbs up!

The Greatest 4X game ever created

Sword of Aragon is one of the absolute greatest strategy games of all time. Such an underrated title, so many strategy gamers don't even know about it. The replayablity of this game is endless, with so many different levels of difficulty I played literally hundreds of hours in this game. The ability to name units, makes this game even more personal and engaging. This is a MUST BUY for any strategy game or RPG fan.

One of the finest strategy games ever

I've played Sword Of Aragon so much. I discovered it in the late 2000s, far after it came out, but was blown away by the level of detail and freedom it gave the player. You customize your troop formations, choosing their style of combat, their equipment, etc, you invest in different industries in your city, you can vassalize other city-states... and most of the major tasks you can undertake have unique reactions and events that come with them, so invading the next city over isn't just The only things I can really say against it is that UI has come a long way since the game came out and it can feel clunky to a modern player, and that the graphics are quite clearly dated. Otherwise, total recommend.

    Best RPG-Strategy-Tabletop-Game ever

Think of the Total War Series in a Fantasy setting, but with turn combat system instead of RTS elements. Than you get the picture. My all time most dearest game ever. Unfortunately the Amiga version (which had better sound effect, re-used fromt he Amiga Version of Pool of Radiance, had a slight and for all I know never fixed bug with the easten elves city. But that shouldn't bother anyone, as this is the very well working PC version of the game.

Sword of Aragon - way ahead of its time!

Originally released 1989, this game was way ahead of its time with deep role playing as well as hard-to-master both strategical and tactical elements. As the Duke of Aladda its up to you to unite the realm. Do you have what it takes? I sure as hell do :)
