SWAT 4: Gold Edition

I'm a big FPS fan but usually stay away from any games with tactical stratregy involved. However, I heard so many great things about SWAT 4 over the years so I decided to give it a try, and damn was I impressed! Even years after release, SWAT 4 feels like a breath of fresh air from the standard shooters of today. I played a bit through mouse and keyboard but eventually managed to remap the controls to a PS5 controller and works great! Irrational Games seriously did an amazing job creating a realistic and gritty cityscape, mostly sticking with familiar locations that immediately connects with and immerses the player. The tactical gameplay at first seems pretty cut and dry - but the sporadic and twitchy AI of opponents always manages to surprise in some fashion, especially on harder diffuiculties. The replayability is the game's biggest draw however. In your first plays you'll usually end up with a couple of dead bodies on the opposing side and even sometimes helpless civilians if they're unlucky enough. It makes you wanna try again and see if you can incapacitate a trigger-happy NPC before they start blasting, and get to the poor hostages before they get shot down. I definitely recommend playing with the Elite Forced mod, and the Graphical Enrichment mod as well.

This is the first title in the SWAT series I have played and this is a definite title to play if your into the room clearing genre. Only complaint I have that doesnt matter really is not being able to aim down sights, but this is easily forgiven.

I remember getting a demo of SWAT 4 in a PC gaming magazine and loving it so much even through it was only one level. I played it so many times i could draw every detail from the level from memory. As i grew up i never found the a game like this one. I tried searching for the game but didn't find any in my country. Untill one day i saw SWAT 3 appear in GOG, i was happy but not what i wanted, then i found the petition for SWAT 4, i voted and hoped for the best. They came through with their promise. And i can say that it still gives me as much fun as all those years ago , i just spent the whole day playing it and i'm do it again and again and again . This game has so much depth and fun. Thank you GOG.

This is in my opinion the best tactical shooter I have ever played. I have been trying to track down a copy for years, and now, it is on GOG. This is a game that rewards non lethality and following police protcol. Here, beanbags are your best friends (Beanbag shotgun for life). Pros -Great level design from the Bioshock devs -No overarching distracting story -Immersive -Makes you feel like an actual cop Cons -Servers shut down, but there are server browsers online -AI is sometimes a bit odd, but it mostly is fine.

SWAT 4 hasn't aged one bit; it's still as good today as it was when it came out. It's still the best that the genre has to offer. Leading your SWAT team through the single player campaign is great, and if that's not your thing, you can always go and play some multiplayer CO-OP or adversarial. The campaign is quite lengthy with the expansion included, and every mission is as good as the previous one. There's also a healthy mod community for the game, and new mods are still coming out today. I highly recommend this to anyone who prefers methodical gameplay and planning instead of running and gunning. You won't find cinematic setpieces here. How you do each mission is up to you, and you only.
