SWAT 4: Gold Edition

So you've set up your team, you breach the doors, tell the hostiles to stand down and maybe shoot them in the leg when they don't back down after shouting at them as persuasion then they spin around and shoot you in the face and it's game over. Or you do everything right and still fail because your team have failed to save a hostage somewhere else in the building. Shit happens. Hostages die. It isn't always your fault. That's why this game is an exercise in frustration, it will eventually make you pay for things outside of your control.

This game has issues. I read the reviews and then experienced it myself. This game needs to be patched or something before they keep selling it. I run an intel i7 6th gen along with all the bells and whistles on my touch screen lenovo laptop. I have never had any issues with any other games or programs, but this game crashes endlessly. I have restarted the game 4 times from the start as apparently the game does not auto save after each mission only upon quit. I have several gog games and truly support gog, and will continue to support them even after this one. But SAVE YOUR MONEY on this one people at least until this game gets a patch. There is no rhyme or reason to the crash, sometimes it's when I get shot, sometimes it's when I'm walking, the last time it just happened while I was reading the ingame content. I liked this series when I was a youngster and would like to play it again but I can't keep wasting my time.

Shooting armed criminals bad, pepper spraying/TASERing and hand cuffing old ladies good. After a short while you will simply equip your entire team (whose AI is terrible by the way) with beanbag shotguns. Unlike old RB6 games, which admittedly sucked as FPS but were pretty good tactical puzzle games, SWAT4 completely forgoes the planning aspect, making it more similar to the much-derided R6:Lockdown. Also, why the fuck do you need to progress in the game to unlock body armor or a gas mask?

Having read through all the reviews, I assumed that this game would be worth downloading. I was very wrong. I would like to review this game but I do not get past the slash screen, as the whole thing freezes. Not only that but I can not even kill the process in task manager, I have to restart the computer. I have tried the compatibility settings with no effect, also tried the newer 1.2 patch, also no effect. Of all the games I have bought on GOG, this is the first that fails to start. My humble computer is only an i7 with 6 cores, 32GB ram, 3TB storage, GTX 1080 Ti, windows 7 x64, so perhaps it is not good enough? The only thing that could be wrong is the on-board Realtech sound chip, but if that works with the likes of Hidden and Dangerous on the one hand, and Rise of the Tomb Raider on the other, then that seems unlikely. So overall I can only give this 1 star although it deserves a 0.
