The most fun with your pants on.
This is one of the best tactical shooters of all time. Topped only by SWAT 4. The game play is rock solid. The missions are fun and challenging with enemies and hostages being moved so no two games are the same even when repeating the same mission. Your AI team members are excellent and they make the game so immersive that you'll quit and restart the mission if one gets killed in action. Customizable loadouts for your entire team allow you to choose how your teams accomplish the mission. In a bad situation SWAT are the guys you want coming in to rescue you. This game puts you in the driver's seat.

Almost there...
It's not as good as SWAT 4, but that is really to be expected, isn't it? It's a good, demanding tactical game, that really gives a sense of accomplishment whenever you finish a mission. That said, it's not perfect. The interface is not as well designed as in SWAT 4 and not really intuitive, so giving commands takes some getting used to. More importantly, the friendly AI leaves a lot to be desired. Stairs seem to confuse your men utterly, making every staircase a potential deathtrap even when it should be a cakewalk, as you have everything planned and prepared. Still, AI faults and some awkwardness aside it's still more than worth a try.

Before SWAT 4 there was...
Simply brilliant. The AI can occasionally make some questionable decisions but overall this is probably the best team-mate AI in existence. SWAT 4 is understandably more popular as there is a gigantic modding community, but personally I think SWAT 3 is the more engrossing game. The scenarios are diverse and the sense of immersion is unreal. The Last Resort Mod (an all-purpose utility hub which only adds minor bug fixes and leaves the core gameplay intact) and perhaps a dgVoodoo wrapper are the only things you'll need to get this running up to par.
