Best with multiple monitors!
The game combines huge maps, unique factions with diverse tech trees, an interesting story, and unusual interface. Users with multiple monitors can turn their computer into actual battle stations, dedicating one monitor to a strategic map to track units, while the other screens give you full control of several battle fields simultaneously. Be ready to sink a lot of time into the game though for battles do get hectic and rage on for hours. Each faction has a unique play style and well-balanced units that have strengths and weaknesses. Just to play it by the numbers won't grant you victory, you need to combine different unit types to be successful. The game still has an active community and AI patches to make it even more challenging. The graphics have aged rather well and the soundtrack is decent. In case you want to give the multiplayer a shot: While it is technically limited to LAN only, keep in mind that using VPN you can expand your LAN to include your friends' computers and play with them via the Internet regardless. If you have the time to spare to play this beast of an RTS, it is most certainly worth picking up - for multiplayer as well as the singleplayer campaigns.
