In Supreme Commander 2, players will experience brutal battles on a massive scale! Players will wage war by creating enormous customizable armies and experimental war machines that can change the balance of power at any given moment. Take the role of one of the three enigmatic commanders, each representing a unique faction with a rich story that brings a new level of emotional connection to the RTS genre. Where do your loyalties lie?
A deep and powerful story - element adds a personal, human aspect to a storyline previously focused on warring factions and the politics that fuel them. The single player campaign features three character-driven storylines set 25 years after the events of Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance
Command enormous armies made up of customizable land, air and naval units. Each of the three diverse factions – The United Earth Federation (UEF), the Cybran Nation and the Illuminate – have been completely redesigned from the original game, with many units.
Experimental units - returning with new designs and greatly enhanced looks….and some new tricks that can be unlocked through research
New Supreme Commander Gameplay Experience - players now have the ability to research new technologies and units and deploy them instantly on the battlefield, allowing them to upgrade a base-level tank to a high-powered, multi-barreled, AA-sporting monster by the end of a given game.
Strategic Mode UI - the redesigned UI that is faster, takes up less screen real-estate and gives better player feedback
New rendering technology that allows us to create visually spectacular environments
This is a good game. Much more strategic and detailed than Starcraft. There is a combat unit specialized for everything. The biggest difference between this and starcraft is there is no resource cap. So the battles can go on forever if you don't make a good army. My only complaint is the controls and unit descriptions aren't really detailed or intuitive. This game takes a lot of practice to master. I think Starcraft is good for strategic training before moving on to this one.
I have forgotten how clunky this sequel was. It is a pale imitation of the original supreme commander. The story is a joke and the mechanics make this a poor imitation of the rush mechanics of C&C 3.
I am a sucker for RTS which play well, and this does play well. Even though the missions are partly scripted you have the change to think what to do and how to win since the triggers are rarely bound to a timer. And you can still zoom out from being close to a unit to see the complete map, something I liked about the first Supreme Commander games.
You are practically not limited by resources here if you know how. The story is still the same style, being the hero switching sides. Though I am still at UEF missions the story clearly develops the same way.
Why four stars? You can't remap the keyboard layout, "Space" is pause for me, but here it is "turn battlefield view" which is normally the middle mouse key. "Pause" is actual pause. If you know Autohotkey you can work around it that way.
Graphically they could have done a bit more shine, higher texture resolution and HDR for a 2010 game, but the gameplay and the missions are good so far, and the tech tree has to be used differently for each mission.
Both negative point are probably since Gas Powered Games was bought up by Square Enix somewhere in development, at least that's what internet rumors tell.
