Interesting concept, horrible execution

The "time moving when you're moving" is an interesting concept. Too bad they seriously messed up the game with absurd technical execution. Laggy mouse look, laggy feeling graphics even on GTX 1080Ti if I turn on AntiAliasing (or it's just so bad mouse look) and absolute and total lack of key re-mapping totally killed my mood for this game after just 4-5 levels. I play my games with arrow keys and I need to use SPACE key to jump instead of RShift like I always do. Which is on the other end of bloody keyboard. This is just lazy and so bad I stopped playing it and came here to write this. Games shouldn't be allowed to be published if they don't have controls settings. Real ones.

Pretty cool

It's the most innovative shooter I've played in years. No but seriously, the time flow mechanic is really cool. The game is a bit short, though, and the endless mode is nothing really interesting. Fun to play for an hour at a time. I don't think it is worth the full price, but discounted, yeah, definitely

Slightly disappointing

I have mixed feelings about this game. It's based on a very interesting idea but I didn't fully like how it was utilised. Some levels are of a "logical puzzle" kind and I enjoyed them the most. The others are almost purely arcade and I had to repeat some of them several times, what was simply boring. The biggest problem is that on some levels there is no time to look around so the only way to learn that some enemy has spawned behind you (in an area cleared a moment ago) is to get killed by him, what allows you to react appropriately on the next attempt. The worst level is the last one, it took me a lot of tries to complete. That was in part because of a glitches in a game - the starting position seemed to be different each time (it wasn't always possible to immediately grab a gun, sometimes I died immediately because the bullets started in front of my face...) also the controls seemed hellishly inprecise (e.g. I moved further than I wanted, what happened also on earlier levels but didn't matter as much). I wouldn't blame my machine as it's specs are far above recommended (and I set the graphics to "fast", as the game offers nothing to look at anyway). Some people complained about the story - I liked it. It fits the theme of the game and nicely solves the problem of combining unconnected levels into a whole (in a much, much better way that e.g. Painkiller did). I don't have a problem with the duration of the game - to be frank I'd even cut some levels from the end as they seemed to be a filler, offering nothing new and interesting. Summarizing: it's a good game and I enjoyed most of it. But it's far from being brilliant and has some problems, so I won't recommend it to everyone.

Meh.

"SUPERHOT" demonstrates that Steam needs more than just a "Yes" and "No" to the question, "Do I recommend this game?" Somewhere inbetween the absolutes of "Yes" and "No" there is a third option, "Meh." SUPERHOT is amazingly cool for about 3-4 hours. Then you're kind of done. The endless challenge modes you can unlock aren't really all that satisfying. The developers shot themselves in the foot, and then in the leg several times and probably another few places as well by deciding during development to use a proprietary lighting engine which requires each level to be baked in a secret process which the community won't be able to duplicate, which means no user generated content. That was the dumbest decision I've ever heard of a game developer making since John Romero's Daikatana / Ion Storm debacle. Skyrim should have taught us that MODS SELL GAMES! SUPERHOT was absolutely the game which could have benefited most from user generated content ... and didn't. This lighting was completely frivolous and unnecessary. The prototype they released for their crowdfunding campaign didn't have this lighting and it looked fine! The gaming press praised it for it's simplistic visuals. There was no need to sacrifice such a fundamentally important feature for a minor aesthetic tweak that hardly anyone will even notice. Overall, that prototype was better in many ways than the final product. It's limitation of only pistols and melee as combat options actually made the gameplay feel strategic, while the shotgun you can't dodge and the necessity of using whatever weapon happens to be in front of you at the moment makes the full game of SUPERHOT feel more arcadey. Still, it's a pretty fun game for that initial 3-4 hours despite these problems. So I can still recommend, but in a more laid back "Meh" kind of way rather than with the full enthusiasm I felt when I backed SUPERHOT on kickstarter.

Okay, but overpriced

I own a copy of the game on Steam that was included in one of the Humble Bundle's. It's okay, but that's about all I can say. The campaign that it does include is very short, and can be completed in just a couple of hours. It has the potential to be something more interesting if there was simply more content to it. Definitely not worth the full price, and I'd wait for a deep sale before even considering it. If I could I'd give this a 2.5 star review. I don't think it deserves 2 stars, but it really doesn't deserve 3.
