Good, but they forgot one thing...

There's no Co-Op in the enhanced edition! It's lucky the package includes the original DOS version...unfortunately, it doesn't include all the clever pre-set up GOG stuff you're used to seeing from GOG. For some reason you're on your own if you want to play the original version, or you want to play cooperatively. Strife is an interesting game, where every choice you make is the wrong one! A bit of crude stealth and a lot of talking to NPC's await in this great use of the Doom engine. A little crude around the edges though, as you can see that almost all of the graphics in the game are "paint overs" of original Doom and Heretic assets. What they lack in artistic creativity, they've more than made up for with level design, story, and creating a living world within the restrictions of the Doom engine! Worth checking out if you're a fan of a more RPG style FPS. Think Deus Ex, but much, much older! (And a fantasy setting instead of Sci Fi.)

Revisiting my Childhood Game

I remember playing this game as a child and had an amazing time with it. This remastered version from Night Dive Studio is very well received in my opinion. They manage to integrate mouse usage, I remember playing this game only with the keyboard, it was a challenge to say the least, aiming was so difficult. Also, the new extra visual effects are a big welcome, the lighting effects especially. So, this is first and foremost a FPS(First Person Shooter), but it has some RPG(Role Playing Game) elements here and there. It was also the first game, I think, that had the HUB type, where you could revisit areas previously explored and cleared. Also, the game features secondary missions and also gives you an instance for a multiple-choice type of mission. Back then, this was unheard of, and it is just wonderful. This plays a lot to the immersion factor. The Music is great. I liked it then; I like it now. It works. They don't make music like this, in games, anymore, that's for sure. I definitely recommend this. It is an experience worth checking out. Thanks Night Dive Studio.

Holds up very well

I remember wanting this game so badly in the 90s. I played the Demo over and over again. Then over the last 20 years I slowly forgot about it. Then when I saw it on GOG it all came rushing back, and I jumped at the chance to play the game I desired so long ago. Like the title says, it holds up very well! They have made it nice and smooth for mouse and keyboard controls by default, set up to the modern standard. It has a fun semi-nonliniar story in a small open world style. Yes it's an old game, so the areas are very small, but the level design is interesting, and never so cryptic that I got stuck for very long when looking for the next switch/boss/story event. The game has some lovely gore and sci-fi setting. I played the whole thing start to finish and I was happy the whole time. Recommended.

Forgotten gem from the mid 90’s.

I’m a big FPS fan but sadly I never heard of Strife before, what a shame ! For its time, a story-driven first-person shooter where you can upgrade your character, trade with merchants, talk with NPCs and accept and accomplish quests was a really unusual and intriguing concept. Sure nowadays we wouldn’t consider this game to be a “real” RPG because of how light the mechanics seems but you have to give it credits for what was done in 1996, it’s a very interesting and fun mix of genres that does give this title a different feeling and atmosphere than other shooter of its era. With this remastered version the game now looks really crisp on modern hardware and support online multiplayer and achievements, however even with a new coat of paint it still show it’s age but don’t worry you don’t need any nostalgia to fully enjoy it. Nowadays the game still feel quite original and unique, just enough to be worth your attention. So if you're curious about this title grab it now you won't regret it, it’s cheap and worth the discovery.

Perhaps my favourite fps

I picked this up awhile ago, and i quite enjoyed it. honestly it was a bit weird having played it before doom and being one of my first experiences with that era's fps games. It's a bit weird with it's balance, and the levels can be a bit maze like but over all the feeling of the game and the atmosphere really carry the day.
