I was a little bit concerned because I'm using a newer computer a Windows 11 computer. I thought I was going to run into compatibility issues. The game works fine but the frame rate is not right. The controls work fine too. It has a good amount of difficulty. Not too hard to be cheap and not too easy to be a pushover. Ultimately if you like Street fighter. You be right at home.
The game itself works fine and all. It's essentially the PSOne game ported to the PC, but with the Arcade original music running on compressed music files. Since it's an older game, modern gamepads don't work quite properly with it so 3rd party software might be needed to get that going. However, how the game works, all configurations will be reset on launch of the game until you manually reload your configurations in the menu (a bit of a hassle/annoyance but it's okay). There's also some minor display issues with modern hardware but I'm not entirely sure what causes it. Otherwise, flaws aside, it's still a really fun game that holds up well in the Street Fighter series.
Buying from GOG: so, yeah, uh, it's weirdddddd. The GAME works fine, but GOG also packages artwork, avatars, and a soundtrack. So, the art is really nice, but just loose JPEGs in a folder. The avatars are just headshots of those loose JPEGs. The "soundtrack," you'll find, is actually NOT the soundtrack. It's actually a remix album called "Street Fighter Alpha 2 Underground Mixxes (Da Sounds of Spasm)." To be fair, the tracks on this remix album are actually really cool. They're just, you know, not the soundtrack.
And that is the problem. Why would they port the PS1 version? The characters have reduced animations due to the limitations of the PS1's hardware plus this version has minimalist menus and original arcade music as opposed to the superior console arranged soundtrack. Those craving nostalgia might still go for it.
Though far from an arcade perfect port, riddled with cut animations and the likes, the game itself is a classic.
While I normally wouldn't, I bought this to show support so we can hopefully get other old Capcom PC ports like the Mega Man X games on here eventually.
