The city burns and bleeds as it suffers the madness of King Louis XVI and his violent legions of automatons. Aegis, a mechanical masterpiece created by the engineer Vaucanson to be the queen's bodyguard, must save the French Revolution in this challenging action-RPG.
CHALLENGING COMBAT BETWEEN AUTOMATONS
Up against the king's mechanical soldiers, deadly accuracy will be needed. String together dodges, parries, jumps and devastating attacks to fight your way through Paris. Every fight will test your nerve and requires excellent discipline, while the huge relentless machine bosses demand patience and skill.
AEGIS: A CHARACTER WITH EXTRAORDINARY SKILLS
Define your own style and upgrade your abilities as you progress through the game. You can play as a ruthless warrior, a hard-hitting bodyguard, a deadly dancer or a virtuoso of the elemental arts. Take advantage of a wide variety of weapons and skills to approach each fight in your own unique way.
REVOLUTIONARY PARIS IS YOUR PLAYGROUND
Using carriages, grapples, secret passages, a detailed map, and other methods and tools you find along the way, explore a city experiencing its darkest days. Your grappling hook adds a new dimension to exploration and Paris's verticality. Combined with your dash ability, it will provide access to all the city's secrets across multiple levels you can explore over and over again.
CHANGE THE COURSE OF HISTORY
You are one of the main characters of an alternative history where Paris is being choked by a tyrant king. Allies and enemies with unclear motives will cross your path, such as Marie-Antoinette, Lafayette and Robespierre. It's up to you to cut a path through all the plotting and put an end to one man's madness so that the French Revolution succeeds.
Usually I don't touch such games but it has the assist mode, allowing you to adjust the difficulty to your liking. I had an amazing time with this title. While the facial animation of the human characters are rather plain, and the voice acting passable to forgetable. The gameplay is really good.
Various weapons to try out and some of the fight can get challanging, but in the end you moustly fight the same enemies a lot. Regardless, I had a very good time playing it. The maps are large and at times really beautiful. Others are dark and filled with bodies.
If you are not a souls fan, this game will make it easier for you to get a taste of it when having the assist mode enabled.
Good game but very bad optimisation.
Very bad first part of the game which seems "indy" and later on it is good.
Very hard to understand story at the beggining.
I like souls like games and im playing without asssists. Game is hard at the beggining. Later on - not mostly. Luxembourg is diffucult.
I think gamers turn off game because of bad beggining and optimisation.
I have RX6600 and i must play on lowest settings and i have spikes to 30 fps.
As usual with Spiders games, the worldbuilding is great. Even if this time it's not a RPG, The team managed to create an interesting setting without that many text and dialogue. As usual the quality of the game impoved and... that's all for the comparison! This time it's a soul like action adventure and it really looks like an AAA production, environements and design are beautiful. On the gameplay side it's very good and efficient, combats are fun and challenging. The assist mode is perfect and make you able to finetune the difficulty by adjusting several parameters like damage reduction from ennemies, energy refill rate ,etc. Every soul like games should have this. The only downpoint is the optimization that is not good at all, do not hope using the best textures. Anyway, I expected a good game and in fact I had a Great Time.
A perfect game for people who want to get into the souls-like genre. Not to difficult, yet still challenging, and quite enjoyable.
Works really well. So far there's been no lag.
Its Spiders's take on souls-like genre. Its story is: fantasy! what if French revolution went totally crazy. Later on the story/ies are intriguing if easy to predict. Running back and forth in a few maze like zones. Its a bit hard to begin, clunky and confusing. It gets used to and takes a while to somewhat stumble to your intitial goals. Then the game gets more aproachable with its peak gameplay (intended gameplay, I believe) after 3rd main big titan boss. Then it shines. By this point You have unlocked various weapons, arsenal and abilities. And by then you can get easy past obstacles and BARRICADES. Yeh I think main pain with this game is those barricades in Paris, they are real deal, like you are in a maze, you know where to go next but there's a barricade! Try to get past it ...there's another... and another, and another... After those mentioned 3 bosses you can navigate easily past them but still... I actually prefered Elden ring's open world to this claustrophobic thingy.
All in all this is a nice Spiders game. To me this studio is ascending champion of Chaos, with emphasis on Chaos. But still they somehow manage to invoke in me something of emotion and positive experience (in the end i dont regret playing their games). Despite many dull moments I somehow always end up emotionally moved and thinking what a nice story. Reminds me somewhat of bioware of old, when they were nascent...
