The city burns and bleeds as it suffers the madness of King Louis XVI and his violent legions of automatons. Aegis, a mechanical masterpiece created by the engineer Vaucanson to be the queen's bodyguard, must save the French Revolution in this challenging action-RPG.
CHALLENGING COMBAT BETWEEN AUTOMATONS
Up against the king's mechanical soldiers, deadly accuracy will be needed. String together dodges, parries, jumps and devastating attacks to fight your way through Paris. Every fight will test your nerve and requires excellent discipline, while the huge relentless machine bosses demand patience and skill.
AEGIS: A CHARACTER WITH EXTRAORDINARY SKILLS
Define your own style and upgrade your abilities as you progress through the game. You can play as a ruthless warrior, a hard-hitting bodyguard, a deadly dancer or a virtuoso of the elemental arts. Take advantage of a wide variety of weapons and skills to approach each fight in your own unique way.
REVOLUTIONARY PARIS IS YOUR PLAYGROUND
Using carriages, grapples, secret passages, a detailed map, and other methods and tools you find along the way, explore a city experiencing its darkest days. Your grappling hook adds a new dimension to exploration and Paris's verticality. Combined with your dash ability, it will provide access to all the city's secrets across multiple levels you can explore over and over again.
CHANGE THE COURSE OF HISTORY
You are one of the main characters of an alternative history where Paris is being choked by a tyrant king. Allies and enemies with unclear motives will cross your path, such as Marie-Antoinette, Lafayette and Robespierre. It's up to you to cut a path through all the plotting and put an end to one man's madness so that the French Revolution succeeds.
Ok... I suck at Dark Souls, Surge, Lords of the Fallen. I was intrigued by the period (18th Century) and setting (Alternate Clock-Punk History). I hesitated because of "souls like"... But I completed my first play through and was very pleased with the experience overall. Still, if you are a die-hard souls fan, this game is probably not hard enough for you. I did not turn down the difficulty and was able to complete it. The save points are fair, the routes back to them also.
The exploration part is also there but less so, mostly to figure out how to cross that obstacle and where to ascend through the houses.
As stated I really liked the story, which was grounded enough to be compelling and also dark but not grim-dark.
Advancement is varied enough to suit a lot of playstiles, but I think Agility is more easier than others (e.g. Power). Therefore: Spiders, keep it up!
I'm not a ds/souls-like fan but completed a few games in that style. I would say that overall it's a good stylish game, with good lore (especially if you have some knowledge about the Great French Revolution), great attention to armor/weapon details, and good animations.
Why did I not like the game in the beginning? If you did not spend a lot of time in the original DS - weapon stats correlation and character stats would not be obvious, poorly explained and the very first boss would be a nightmare.
But later on, you will be able to create your own build, preferable weapon, playstyle, and so on - and while the game would still be hard and require your full attention - it would be "your" game.
Amazing storyline, gameplay, weapons, enemies, locations, shortcats, bonfires. Actually everything is there. Only minus for me is requirements, but even with my graphic card which did not meet even basic requirement I finished the game with max fps. I finished game on stream and was touched by the ending and I started playing this game right after dark souls 3.
My only problem is jumping - I dont think jumping should be the case in soulslikes and there were few places where I had to change weapon to make attack in air to jump further cause some jumps were extremly hard.
Overall, amazing game, amazing experience. Did almost all side quests, can easily recommend. And game has easy-mode too if you're not like, fan of difficult soulslikes ;)
This is yet another souls-like game, one of many, but what makes this one stand out imo is the beautiful setting, atmosphere and world building. The whole alternate reality French revolution thing is really well done.
Cons: My main issue was the lack of variety in enemies, the bosses being a little bit too easy and the game being super short.
Pros: It's a very fun game and I really enjoyed the story, the combat was very enjoyable.
Neutral: Easier than other souls like, this can be either good or bad depending on the person. I personally didn't care it was easier.
The late 1700's setting of relatively crude machines powered by early clockwork style mechanisms looked interesting when I bought this game.
I struggled for the first couple of days trying to get through the early fights, but then (with help from my girl) I got through that and from then oooo WOW the combat became amazing.
One of the most enjoyable things is the way the (beautiful) story is unveiled as you go along, and it is a fairly deep and interesting storyline indeed.
You become quite attached to the character you play, if she 'breaks' you think 'Noooo' ... her innocence and honestly combined with her ability to beat the living crap out of things that hurt your lovely automaton make this a very rewarding game to play.
It has a very well done build tree setup that has depth, you can customise your girl's stats to suit the way you like to play, this combination of things plus the pure eye candy of the gorgeous graphical artwork, animations and storyline made this game so enjoyable to me that I ended up not wanting it to end.
I can't recommend this game enough.
