SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech

Got most part of the SteamWorld series games. This one for whatever the reason I was not really tempted to buy it, didn´t know the reason but I trust my guts, and I don´t read magazines reviews anymore as a trustable place to choose games. The thing is that I got STADIA for free 2 months, and the game is free there, I am glad I didn´t bought it, I don´t think STADIA is my platform I prefer to have my games owned (like in GOG) but was good to try some games I don´t have, including this one, and I am happy I never bought it. To the game: Mechanics are good in terms of cards, but it really smells like they didn´t got enough time of developing things to deeply, it gets repetitive and it lacks "something" many other GOOD card games have, and this one, doesn´t. Graphics are sweet, as in all the franchise, but the places we visit lack all the charisma other games of the saga have. Is the characters and mostly the enemies, who are really cool. The Story is bad, the characters are bland, the story makes few sense and is barely and excuse to move you forward, never made me get into it at all. Music and sounds are as repetitive as the game itself. Metagame updating and crafting cards is just enough, again seems they lack deep for a "card game" Disappointing.

The beginning of the game was pretty nice, funny and exciting. As it progresses, the grinding begins rather monotonous. But the characters are charming and lively, the art looks nice, and the enemies are multiple and fascinating.

This game is so close to being amazing. The core care mechanics are really good, and the game adds new card to the end, which makes tinkerin with builds fun. All characters are fun to use, their dialogue and designs are iconic and charming. There are some cards that are visibly too weak for how much they cost, but it's no big deal. HOWEVER. The game has really, REALLY low enemy variety. After the first 5 or so hours, you've seen every enemy in the game, and there's still 10-13 hours to go. They get recoulors, but no or very few new skills. Even bosses get reused like crazy - exept the final boss every boss is used at least twice, and some are used 3 to 5 times times, often with no or very little changes to their moveset. It's such a weird problem for a card game. I wouldn't mind reused models and effects, if they acted differently and required different strategies. But they don't so the game gets pretty boring. Also, the game's animations are too slow. I've played the whole game holding the fast forward button, and some fights still took me up to 25 minutes. I guess they wanted to make each card use feeel satysfying, but multiplayed by up to 10 cards ber turn, it adds up too much. Shaving half a second here and there would help the game flow better.

The perfect turn-based RPG/Deckbuilder ! I wish I could give 6 stars to this game. Everything in Steamworld Quest just clicks in the right place. The ease of control is marvelous (you can play using m+kb, mouse or keyboard only, or controller). The gameplay is easy to learn, simple to play, yet deep and engaging, favoring skill and planification over mere chance. You can customize your party and decks in plenty of ways. Each encounter is interesting and every boss is challenging, with different difficulty modes to attune your experience. The pace and progression just feels natural. The graphics and the music are gorgeous, the maps invite you to be explored. The character design is brilliant, every single one of them is unique and enormously endearing. The story is awesome, very original and well structured, the dialogs are charming, witty and comical... If you like card games and rpgs, no doubt about this one ! You'll love Steamworld Quest !

I just love this developer. They always put their heart and soul into their games. I've completed the first Dig and Heist games. And just finished the Quest. It's very charismatic with lovable characters. The story is interesting. And balancing is really fair. The only thing I didn't like is that you can complete the level without the warning. Because I wanted to get all the chests. For example in Heist they show % of the loot you got before you exit, so you can go back and find all chests. Other than that it's an amazing adventure. Not many games like this.
