1new mechanic 4 painfully obsolete genre
Very, very short excerpt from my review: What I&F did is outright miracle. While majority of the rest of the game is disposable, they did made the combat itself work, and be the main attraction. Terrible outdated party-based glued-in-place turn-based battles are completely changed with addition of CCG. I’m not a fan of most CCG due to utterly random draws. But here hands are very controllable. Decks are limited to just eight cards, and you can take four duplicates of some of them, mostly the energy creating ones. This energy cards are not waste of space either, all of them are basic buff or basic attack cards. And there are tons of synergies: if you use three cards of the same colour, fourth one is played, based on which weapon the character uses; some cards work great inside a deck; some cards play great between colours; some equipment or cards allows you to draw more cards or to use more cards; some items negate self-debuffs from your strong cards. The deckbulding and combo building is really, really good, it beats all CCG i played, if we don’t go as far as to remove RNG-hand entirely. The random element only adds to the game, preventing the combat to go stale. Light randomness rarely leaves you without any option if you have even basic understanding of balanced deck-building, but stops you from spamming “X” to win. But i bet even if you don’t get deck-building, you still can finish the game using mostly requirement-less cards. One of the most useful combos is just using as much water bullets as you have after just any blue card, and trying that card to be mana barrier, since it ignores despair. Game works perfectly in UHD UWS Surround. The sound-design has good steambot simlish, with the rest being utilitarian and never irritating. Music this time is nice too, there isn’t anything to grind your gears.
