SteamWorld Quest is the roleplaying card game you’ve been waiting for! Lead a party of aspiring heroes through a beautifully hand-drawn world and intense battles using only your wits and a handful of cards. Take on whatever threat comes your way by crafting your own deck choosing from over 100 unique punch-cards!
What awaits you is a luscious treasure chest filled with gold, dragons, vivid worlds, magic, knights in shining armor as well as XP, turn-based battles and all that good RPG stuff! The game’s humorous mix of traditional fantasy and steampunk robots makes for an unforgettable experience with lots of laughs.
This is a well crafted deck builder with some lite RPG elements. The story is goo with a mix of humor and serious moments. In total you can expect about 12-15 hours to complete the game the first time.
A game about legacy, hubris, and placing trust in a younger generation.
I'm writing this after recently completing the game on normal difficulty with about 30 hours of gameplay.
I enjoyed my time the game and felt it provided a decent challenge without being overwhelming. Any time I ran into a boss or battle that was too tough, I would adjust my party and deck loadout in a thoughtful way and succeed.
On normal difficulty, I found one or two loadouts for each character and switched between them, occasionally cycling in a new card and ditching an old one. Unlike roguelike deckbuilders such as Slay The Spire, you can full control over what cards to add and which items to equip. I really appreciate the range of possibilities each character's deck provide, despite me only using a few.
The gameplay is linear and the story is told through Chapters which you can replay if you missed some treasure similar to the Trine series if you've played those. For the first half of the game I was set on finding every chest, but towards the end I felt plenty powerful and could buy any recovery items I needed, so I didn't worry much about missed treasure.
Story isn't great. But the card play and characters are a lot of fun. I wish there were more deck-buider RPGs like this that were not also roguelikes.
Of the three steamworld-type games I've played, Quest is probably my favorite.
I got hooked on the PS Vita versions of SteamWorld Dig. I love the art and the character movement of all the games and this one definitely feels like it's a part of the family.
