When mind and machine become one – what will remain of humanity?

Berlin, 2048 – The world is on the brink. Lack of resources, illnesses caused by polluted air and water, crime on the rise, war. Governments and companies promise remedies through technological progress. Drones and humanoid robots replace humans in the public sector, everything is interconnected, surveillance has become omnipresent.

Richard Nolan is one of the few journalists openly criticizing this development. When he wakes up in hospital after an explosion and finds that his wife and son have mysteriously vanished, Richard realizes: he and his family have become more than just bystanders in a storm of rivaling ideas pertaining humankind’s salvation between dystopian reality and digital utopia. Instead, they find themselves right at the center of it.

This domestic drama evolves into a thriller about a worldwide conspiracy, which at its core aims to determine the fate of humanity: Could a perfect digital utopia be the answer? A virtual paradise not affected by material needs and quarrels? Could a super-AI be our savior – or would it simply declare us as dispensable since it could not be taught the value of philanthropy?

What will the world look like after this storm, what will remain of humanity?

  • Experience an alarmingly realistic vision of the near future
  • Dive into a multi-layered Sci-Fi thriller, where dystopian reality and digital utopia are intertwined
  • Unravel a global conspiracy in a society of ubiquitous digitalism, surveillance and transhumanism
  • Explore a world with a rich and unique visual style, combining realistic environments with low-poly characters
  • Take on the role of journalist Richard Nolan, as well as five additional playable characters
  • Use dexterity, deductional skill and research to reconstruct Richard's past

A great little game

This game simply kept me coming back for more. Strong characterization with excellent voice overs, a compelling story line set in an effective futuristic game setting and graphical style. Although more walking simulator than interactive game, there is sufficient interaction and the unraveling of the story keeps the momentum going. I liked the ending too, it seemed fitting given the exploration of the characters and situations leading up to it. Well done Daedalic! I'd love to see more like this.

Fiting ending for a game about uploading

As far as I'm concerned, the game ends abruptly with a hard crash in a later part of the game. As this crash has been reported by a number of users on a variety of platforms, and as the developer seems to have no inclination to patch it, and as the crash is difficult to work around, i consider it a part of the game and the game's ending. I think it is important that people start talking about mind uploading and how it might seem appealing but is a really dumb thing to do. The way this game crashes while in the simulation part of the game illustrates just one of the reasons why you don't want to be an upload. Another is how, when your character starts exhibiting some testosterone, as an upload, he is simply deleted with the press of a button with no possibility of resistance is another excellent exhibit of why you don't want to be an upload.

Fantastic narrative, truly worth a go

Disclaimer which is also a pretty good bottom line - If you ever happened to play Dreamfall or Dreamfall Chapters, and enjoyed it, there's a very high probability you're going to like this title as well. All mentioned games share the same good aspects: Great storytelling, mild futuristic and\or sci-fi vibes, you get to play multiple characters who are mainly interesting and likeable, and it all generally has a nice cinematic view. The graphics and soundtrack also has a nice touch to them, and fit very well to the game's atmosphere. Unfortunately they all also share the same bad aspects: this product usually feels much more like a film trying to be a game, and doing to by plenty of mildly challenging puzzles \ mini games \ go-fetch-come-back sequences. This can definitely become a nuisance and a letdown for plenty of players. While I didn't suffer from those, I did find them slightly out of place or annoying at times, but there were also some good ones, too. This game certainly isn't perfect as an actual game, yet the plot kept me totally gripped and wanting more, and I felt that for this type of games, there was an OK balance between "plot moments" and "gameplay moments" , plus the overall experience and story were totally worth it. I hope to see more of this from Daedalic, and totally recommend this title!

autosave sucks

I wanted to like this game, but having to replay the same things all over again to progress a day later sucks. Unless there will be an update for saving when we want, it's catching dust on the shelve. I wanted to know more because it has a cyberpunk style on high heels sort of. Until now we only have seen the dwellers from the dirty underground in tattoos and colorful haircuts. For the first time (maybe not) we get a look in the lifes of the higher class of people who think they are it. I wanted to know more about the car accidents the main characters got envolved and that Mars thing. I'm tired replaying and called it off for now. AUTOSAVE SUCKS in this game.

A "work of love" as many said. Intense.

I am impressed with the game. Some people say it is a "work of love", and I entirely agree with that. The development team poured lots of attention to detail, thought, and affection into the game. The production values are high. The polygonal textures were probably used to decrease the amount of the developmental work (otherwise it would be insane), however the developers used the textures artfully, and the art stands out on its own. Some people are critical of the mini-games (puzzles) as the "filler", but I disagree with them. The puzzles are simple, but they are used to interject the flow of story, and make me realise how I am impatient to learn what will happen next in the story. I think the puzzles are appropriate. The game started monotonous, and looked "samey". In the past quarter of the game, I was impressed with the many changes of the scenery, and with the pace of the story. All of the places were beautifully and lovingly drawn. The story presented the moral dilemmas, and it was not "black or white". This appealed to me, an adult. This gave a depth to the game. I was able to be compassionate to the characters, and the game incited an intense emotional response from me... in the last quarter of the game. It took me 14 hours to beat the game... while the average reported time was 4.5 hours. I have no idea why, because I did not waste my time.
