Dear diary...

I just finished the game. A game that had an interesting premise and started quite strong, and then slowly degraded into a game almost entirely filled with content through PDA and computer log "diaries" for you to endure. Yes, badly written diaries. The "drivel" you are often about to read will make you shake your head. Firstly, because you only can ask why anyone would care to write stuff like this down and secondly because you will ask how people like these would be appointed the positions they are in. Regarding this, your character, while reacting to the horror around him, will never ever react or even acknowledge what he just read. Making the heaps of diaries you encounter feel detached from the game. Which leads us to the biggest problem I had with Stasis: Your character does never react to the puzzles and possible dangers before him. You won't get any useful feedback when inspecting things or combining items. If a combination does not work, the character will just spout one of several lines that tell you "this is not correct". These lines will never change and are not related to items and or things around you and do never contain any hints to what might be missing or you were doing wrong. Since that is the case, puzzles work like this: As the player know you have to do something, you pick up all possible items, you either get things done by trying out what you have or you don't, move on and repeat. The puzzles aren't that difficult, but nevertheless would it have been nice if the person you are controlling would at least recognize what he is doing... Stasis isn't a bad game, really. It just has a lot of annoying shortcomings that, in the end, ruined the overall experience. At least for me. Well, it only has a really small team behind it and so I still have to respect what they managed to put together. I bought it on discount for about 9€, which is okay for what I got with about eight hours played. I don't recommend paying more, you might feel ripped off.

Atmosphere is great, story not so much

I could not wait to play Stasis, I followed development for quite a while, played the demo, and bought the full version on day one. But while the game delivered in terms of visuals and sound, the story and the characters failed to draw me in. I do love sci-fi/horror, and from plenty of exposure to movies and games in that genre I learned that it's much easier to make something that looks great, but it appears to be much harder to get the story and the characters right. I did finished the game, and I don't regret playing it, although it was a bit tedious at the end. I don't think I'll ever feel the need to Stasis again, but I will play the developer's new game - Cayne - in the hope that I will like it better.

Decent horror puzzler

A good puzzle game with a horror atmosphere that is marred by a lackluster ending. In my opinion some of the puzzle solutions are also a bit convoluted, but I am not a hardcore puzzler so fans of the genre may have no trouble.

Props for the atmosphere

The good thing about this game is the atmosphere the which is dark and dense and partly for the story which pushes you forward but thats all because, the actual GAME is rubbish: - controls are horrible: no keyboard shortcuts whatsoever, you can not skip the dialogs - the hero moves often in the least optimal routes which is just pure amateurism - puzzles are simply non-logical/stupid, the game is full of pixel hunting which I find boring and intellectually not worth any of my time (and yours as well I believe). Honestly: from the beginning I was using some online guide to get through all this BS and just follow the story and enjoy the atmosphere. - i really mind that the main character is pushing too much of his stance to you - story is mediocre, you know what is coming almost from the start I am glad I bought this game for the $2 otherwise I would very disappointed. PS: I believe this would be a great movie and the creators would be much better of making a movie rather than a game since they do not know how to execute it so in the end all the potential is wasted
