Dear diary...
I just finished the game. A game that had an interesting premise and started quite strong, and then slowly degraded into a game almost entirely filled with content through PDA and computer log "diaries" for you to endure. Yes, badly written diaries. The "drivel" you are often about to read will make you shake your head. Firstly, because you only can ask why anyone would care to write stuff like this down and secondly because you will ask how people like these would be appointed the positions they are in. Regarding this, your character, while reacting to the horror around him, will never ever react or even acknowledge what he just read. Making the heaps of diaries you encounter feel detached from the game. Which leads us to the biggest problem I had with Stasis: Your character does never react to the puzzles and possible dangers before him. You won't get any useful feedback when inspecting things or combining items. If a combination does not work, the character will just spout one of several lines that tell you "this is not correct". These lines will never change and are not related to items and or things around you and do never contain any hints to what might be missing or you were doing wrong. Since that is the case, puzzles work like this: As the player know you have to do something, you pick up all possible items, you either get things done by trying out what you have or you don't, move on and repeat. The puzzles aren't that difficult, but nevertheless would it have been nice if the person you are controlling would at least recognize what he is doing... Stasis isn't a bad game, really. It just has a lot of annoying shortcomings that, in the end, ruined the overall experience. At least for me. Well, it only has a really small team behind it and so I still have to respect what they managed to put together. I bought it on discount for about 9€, which is okay for what I got with about eight hours played. I don't recommend paying more, you might feel ripped off.
