Description
Strategy from the front lines! Starpoint Gemini Warlords combines 3rd person capital spaceship combat with 4X strategy and RPG gameplay elements.Build mighty war fleets and send them into battle or lead them into combat yourself.
Become the Warlord and conquer the Gemini system!
Control your ship directly to show off your battle prowess. Aim and fire manually or command your gunners to do the job for you while you execute unique skills. Choose your companions to follow you into battle and if you need an extra hand, have your fleets join you in glorious combat. Battles in Warlords can vary from duels and small skirmishes to clashes of massive fleets in planetary orbits. Construct ships and assemble your mighty war fleets to pitch them against the other war-mongering factions of Gemini, but be mindful of the situation you're sending them into. A seemingly weaker fleet can be accompanied by warmasters, well-trained specialists that can sway the battle in their favor, but fear not, you can have your fleet follow you so you can lead them to victory! Upgrade your headquarters with additional modules to produce more advanced weapons and enhancements, develop new ships leading up to the station-size Proxima, unlock new structures and activate various bonuses that influence all of your territory. You are the leader of your people and a powerful leader deserves a stronghold. Spread your influence and increase your resources by expanding your territory, but don't stretch your defenses too thin or your enemies might take advantage. Territory can be fortified and improved by building various resource and defense structures. Expand the T-Gate network to make your fleets travel across your ever-growing empire faster. A timely arrival can make all the difference. Begin your adventure on a small, agile gunship and work your way up to a massive carrier class capable of deploying numerous fighter wings. Upgrade your chosen vessel of destruction with a plethora of weapons and enhancements. And to finish it all off, throw a coat of paint on it to get that perfect vessel you always wanted.
  • Massive game world, populated by over 60 diverse factions, ready to face your war fleets.
  • Campaign mode – Play through the story of the “exiles”, who settled on the barren planet of Phaeneros on the outskirts of Gemini, after escaping the alien invasion of the Sol system.
  • Five free roam scenarios with distinct start setup.
  • Choose among nearly 90 different ships, from gunships and corvettes to bulky carriers.
  • Build your own personal headquarters to boost your economic and military power.
  • Procedurally generated freelance jobs offer a great way to earn Credits that you can use to pump upgrades into your ship.
  • Procedurally generated encounters can creep up on you when you least expect them.
  • Choose one of three unique character classes or whip up a hybrid class of your own.
  • Conduct research on a multitude of different tech that affects everything from your own ship to the global scheme of things.
  • Construct ships, assemble war fleets and send them in all directions to conquer for the glory of the Solari Concord.
  • Build and upgrade infrastructure across the star system to improve resource gathering and strengthen your dominion.
  • Engage in diplomatic relations and sign trade deals to get that boost you need.
  • Mod support that greatly surpasses that of its predecessor, Starpoint Gemini 2.

It's missing something

I've played Imperium Galactica and Sins of a Solar Empire. I had fun in both. Both games give you a sense of the big picture so you can learn the environment and get control of it. You can plan and strategize. I'm really struggling to get into this Starpoint game. I don't know if it's just that my expectations are wrong, but I am struggling to get a sense of understanding of the game mechanics and thus I don't feel in control. It feels more like an adventure game where you are guided around and given only the illusion of control. I am also finding control of the ships to not be satisfying at all. For some reason I am not getting a sense of weight and inertia. It doesn't feel like the ships are in space. It feels like I'm moving 3D models around with some constraints. The camera system is also awkward and not satisfying. When I get into a battle, I don't feel like I'm fighting enemy ships, I feel like I'm fighting the controls. This game is visually beautiful and the interface has a nice design. I want to like this game, but I just can't get into it. There seem to be lots of people who do like this game, so maybe it's just that this game isn't for me. If they provide a demo, my suggestion would be to try it before you buy it.

Kill bugs and get 5 stars!

This game is awesome, I really want to play it all the time. Yet... bugs are EVERYWHERE for me. I completed the main campaign and am now playing the Titans DLC, and after playing about 5 minutes I have to save and reload. Allies stop shooting at enemies, fully upgraded Holo Decoy skill doesn't shoot at targets, I cease to deal damage to enemies (i.e. they're invincible) after just a couple of battles, commands don't work ("Go to location" sends me off at a 45 degree angle because my Legion Titan ship doesn't turn worth a crap before hitting lightspeed), etc. Is this game EVER going to become playable? It's been out for four freaking years! Kill the bugs and get 5 stars! Until then, I am not purchasing anything else from this company (the makers of Starpoint, not GOG, to be clear!) And judging by the way Starpoint Gemini 3 abandoned playable capital ships and 4X-lite designs, to much dismay, it looks like they need people to buy their stuff now more than ever. I really love what they tried to do, the X games were just too irritatingly complex to actually play, they were more along the lines of what I would do and expect to be paid for. SGW and SG2 at least tried to have action, and I love carrier gameplay with procedural/randomized encounters. Pity they couldn't carry the torch to the end of the line.

Very good but a bit limited

A very nice game; but unless it reveals entire new gameplay elements and research options (from the store description, it doesn't look like it will - I have got to sample everything the store description says the game has) the game is quite limited or at least oddly paced. At about 25 hours in, I have almost run out of research options and base upgrades but have barely scratched exploring the map. At this point in the game, I don't have motivation to push further into the map. The campaign keeps pushing you to upgrade to a larger ship and there doesn't seem to be an option to store your ship fully equipped (storing the ship strips its equipment) or add it to your fleet. Therefore at any point in the game, you only view your ship as a stepping stone to the next ship. Adding it to your fleet would have been really nice. As another review mentioned, the game has an odd lack of intertia in the ship movement and often feels like you are pushing a 3D model around an editor rather than moving a ship through space. It's especially noticeable when setting your speed to 0 as the ship will come it a sudden and total halt. There's also a lack of customisation options and I bought this game after trying out Starpoint Gemini 2 and this doesn't seem to have the loot system that game has. The game would probably just about feel worth its current full price; except when it is light on content and has a bunch of DLC releases - it feels like maybe they're being greedy.

A bit too streamlined 4x. Mods please.

This has the potential to be a great game but it feels very lacking in content. It is a very streamlined and limted 4x game. The story is bland and gameplay is out of place. It attempts to be a single player MMO but it becomes a confused arcade 3rd person shooter. However, and I MUST EMPHASISE, this is a spiritual successor to Star Trek Legacy, and I would absolutely LOVE a star trek conversion mod. For AUS$40, is this game worth buying? I am unable to say no, but am unable to properly reccomend this game. IF... you liked Star Trek Legacy, you will like this game. The combat is very enjoyable. However, the diplomacy, skill trees, and construction/tech advancement is very basic and of Tablet App quality. You will be unimpressed and frustrated with the obstacle and time waste of poorly designed 4x features. Fingers crossed for game changing, massive, and free updates

Wasted potential bad story weak gameplay

I've been playing this for a couple of hours, and it's really pretty. However I have to log a dissenting review on this game because I just am not finding it enjoyable in the least. The first thing that struck me is how bad the writing is. Every single character including the player provied dialog options are full of idiotic decisions. I get that there's supposed to be some kind of infighting going on, but pretty much every character turns on their allies as quick as possible. Raynor is supposed to be a long-time friend and is very concerned about your survival at the beginning but immediately treats you like garbage and gloats about outranking you. The "commander" doesn't show up during the prologue or have any visible interactions and is blamed for everything to get the plot going, when it's clear that the ship captain did a bunch of stupid things. It's hard to get invested in the a universe full of people who are so self-defeating. Let them be destroyed for all I care. The voice acting is fine, not great. The art style is fine not great. Some parts are volice acted, others aren't. Male characters have super close up pictures and female characters get zoomed out portraits to show off their clevage. I mean that's just blatent. The menus, UIs, and interaction screens are distractingly ugly and inconsistent. Sometimes disabled options are greyed out, sometimes they blink but you can't click on them? What? The controls are awful, even remapping things doesn't help because of the way the game expects you to interact with everything. UI elements moving around. Ugh. Gameplay? What gameplay? There's clearly going to be more mechanics opening up later sure. But the stuff at the begining is not fun. I've played a lot of space shooters, traders, and 4X games. Freelancer to Homeworld to EVE Online. And this doesn't hold a candle to any of them. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I find this a joyless slog.
