Description
Strategy from the front lines! Starpoint Gemini Warlords combines 3rd person capital spaceship combat with 4X strategy and RPG gameplay elements.Build mighty war fleets and send them into battle or lead them into combat yourself.
Become the Warlord and conquer the Gemini system!
Control your ship directly to show off your battle prowess. Aim and fire manually or command your gunners to do the job for you while you execute unique skills. Choose your companions to follow you into battle and if you need an extra hand, have your fleets join you in glorious combat. Battles in Warlords can vary from duels and small skirmishes to clashes of massive fleets in planetary orbits. Construct ships and assemble your mighty war fleets to pitch them against the other war-mongering factions of Gemini, but be mindful of the situation you're sending them into. A seemingly weaker fleet can be accompanied by warmasters, well-trained specialists that can sway the battle in their favor, but fear not, you can have your fleet follow you so you can lead them to victory! Upgrade your headquarters with additional modules to produce more advanced weapons and enhancements, develop new ships leading up to the station-size Proxima, unlock new structures and activate various bonuses that influence all of your territory. You are the leader of your people and a powerful leader deserves a stronghold. Spread your influence and increase your resources by expanding your territory, but don't stretch your defenses too thin or your enemies might take advantage. Territory can be fortified and improved by building various resource and defense structures. Expand the T-Gate network to make your fleets travel across your ever-growing empire faster. A timely arrival can make all the difference. Begin your adventure on a small, agile gunship and work your way up to a massive carrier class capable of deploying numerous fighter wings. Upgrade your chosen vessel of destruction with a plethora of weapons and enhancements. And to finish it all off, throw a coat of paint on it to get that perfect vessel you always wanted.
  • Massive game world, populated by over 60 diverse factions, ready to face your war fleets.

  • Campaign mode – Play through the story of the “exiles”, who settled on the barren planet of Phaeneros on the outskirts of Gemini, after escaping the alien invasion of the Sol system.

  • Five free roam scenarios with distinct start setup.

  • Choose among nearly 90 different ships, from gunships and corvettes to bulky carriers.

  • Build your own personal headquarters to boost your economic and military power.

  • Procedurally generated freelance jobs offer a great way to earn Credits that you can use to pump upgrades into your ship.

  • Procedurally generated encounters can creep up on you when you least expect them.

  • Choose one of three unique character classes or whip up a hybrid class of your own.

  • Conduct research on a multitude of different tech that affects everything from your own ship to the global scheme of things.

  • Construct ships, assemble war fleets and send them in all directions to conquer for the glory of the Solari Concord.

  • Build and upgrade infrastructure across the star system to improve resource gathering and strengthen your dominion.

  • Engage in diplomatic relations and sign trade deals to get that boost you need.

  • Mod support that greatly surpasses that of its predecessor, Starpoint Gemini 2.

A first rate star-ship captain simulator

I enjoyed Starpoint Gemini 2 quite a bit. It scratched the Freelancer itch, while letting you feel like the up and coming captain of your own capital ship. However, it felt pretty indy, and rough around the edges at times, despite being an fun, attractive game. SPG Warlords, however, feels like the developers took all the lessons learned from the first game, and turned it into a nearly AAA experience. This is a fantastic, polished game that asks the question: What would a modern freelancer be like if you could command a massive capital ship, along with an entire armada if you so choose? Graphics: The graphics are massively improved, and look fantastic Subtle ship details that are reminiscent of the ships in star citizen, etc. abound. Ships shed material when hit, and now explode with satisfying particle effects and debris. Everything is built on a much larger scale, and this makes the experience much more immersive. The game runs more smoothly than it's predecessor despite all of the additional detail. I have it completely maxed out at 1080p on a Geforce 970. The frame-rate is buttery smooth. Gameplay: Space felt barren in the old games, and despite visual details, there was little to interact with. Now random events might happen while you travel through space. A merchant might need rescuing, or a caravan might have gotten separated. Even the freelance missions feel like real adventures. You can hail ships and stations and converse using dialogue trees. A nice touch might have you stumbling across a special derelict floating in space with a story to tell. The controls are top notch, and the interface is easy once you get used to it. They have greatly improved the HUD, and it now looks very slick and polished. It's much easier to manage your quests, ships, and everything else thanks to a redesigned interface. Conclusion: This is a great, space opera simulator where you get to command a capital ship. It's far better than I could have possibly hoped for.

Decent but flawed

There is one huge flaw about this game: enemies are leveled with you. So you're not going to ever get more powerful in this game when leveling.

Star Trek Legacy meets Master of Orion?!

Okay, first thing right out of the gate you need to know that if you see someone playing this game using the mouse and keyboard to dogfight and they're complaining about how hard it is, they aren't using the controls correctly. While you *can* control the ships manually, it's really just for mining and salvaging. The correct way to perform combat, however, is to do it is like how it was on Star Trek Legacy where you steer your ship with WSAD, look around with the mouse, and use a context menu to issue commands to your crew. Yes, when in combat, you spend most all of your time and effort positioning your ship so that most of your turrets are facing your target while you try to turn any of your decaying shields away from incoming fire, manage power systems, offensive and defensive captain skills, as well as purchased ship add-ons that give additional abilities. All the time this is going on, your crew will engage the enemy ships. You can manually give the command to fire torpedoes and even send marines over to board the enemy ship. Now, with that out of the way this game is super fun and addicting. While you fly around and trade, bounty hunt, defend stations, or even destroy them, you have a little station and empire of your own that you're operating in a simple Master of Orion type game board. It's not so complicated that you'll be pouring over a manual for days just to play your first game. I figured everything out in a few hours of diving in. You collect resources, build structures, expand your borders, defend them from invaders, perform diplomacy duties, sign trade agreements, and build your own fleet. There's a lot that seems to be inspired from X3: Albion Prelude with the HQ expansion where you can reverse-engineer captured ships and then mass produce them. There's tons of stuff to do and you can play the game however you like. Very addicting. I give it five very happy space goats.

Fun Game, Stupid Story

So it's Starpoint Gemini 2 with buildable fleets you can move around. The writing is juvenile, and the gameplay's simple, but it's fun, and there's a lot of it. For some contrast, I got this and Endless Space 2 at the same time, and I've spent my time playing this (Endless Space 2 being a broken, buggy, Steam Only mess helped). For a change, would recommend playing this title on Normal instead of max difficulty - everything's the same, but you waste a lot less time grinding and cloak sniping.

Good game but bad move

Awesome game better than the second one, more diverse more open world. They also managed to bring Titans back yet another plus. What sucks is perhaps the lack of modding tools for GOG version, you need the Steam version to enjoy that which is kind of a bummer. Things that suck? - Bad ai it follows you around in swarming circular patterns and even bumps into you randomly. - Some mission objectives are overly complicated or when you reach them your surrounded by flanks. - Random non important missions feel like a chore sometime. - Constant action might bog some systems down. - Too many things going at times, you scrub one end of the map only to realize a different location has taken over. Unless you have a massive fleet you might be at a disadvantage of reach two or three targets at once. - Terrible camera positions, I like the choice of having 3rd and 1st person views but ship configurations can make both seem odd at times. Liking riding nose end bullet train or a view covered with a ship so large it blocks out the sun. - Your advantage as a captain actually make you seem invincible at first, having four specializations to pick from. What sucks is that it is not across the aboard, you have an enemy that just wants to shoot with no other purpose than that. You feel like at times your a special case having specializations the galaxy lacks. - Run n gun vs Texas style hold outs, I prefer run n gun but there are some missions that require you to take out larger targets. The defenses can be anywhere from minor to over the top impossible. - Its great to be able to apply decals, but not really it seems kind of pointless to me unless they added the ability to actually customize the ships and your fleet.
