Description

Step into the laid-back shoes of captain Jonathan Bold as he travels and explores the open world of Starpoint Gemini 3. Encounter amazing characters, engage in unprecedented dawgfighting space combat, mining, freelancing, trading and crafting as You uncover Bold's shady origins.

FIGHT

Experience action-packed space combat that pushes both you and your spaceship to the limit. Outfit your ship with the latest in high-tech weaponry. Do you like picking off your targets from a distance? Check out the cannons. What about doing strafing runs so close to your target that you can chip off paint? Blasters and scatterguns could be your thing. Or perhaps You prefer the middle-ground approach? In that case machineguns will provide an answer. Augment all that with a large assortment of different skill-based boosts and You just might become the ultimate agent of destruction.

EXPLORE

With trusty ADAH, your own personal digital consciousness by your side, explore Gemini and, for the first time, other distant star systems of the former Earth Empire. Scan anomalies, rummage through derelict ships and let ADAH stretch her legs so you can investigate those hard to reach places. ADAH serves as your one-drone away-team. When you reeeeeeeally need to know what there is to find in a massive abandoned derelict or hack into the mainframe of a fully functioning station, ADAH is your girl.

EARN A BUCK

Being a dashing space buccaneer doesn't come cheap. Earn credits by doing an odd job or two, commissioned by your friendly neighborhood bartender for an undisclosed third party. Or perhaps you're a more of a do-it-yourself kind of captain? First acquire blueprints and then with a bit of raw ore mining and some creative haggling with the traders, assemble the parts into something that can get you rich! ... or at least cover your bar-tab. Almost all items found in the game can be combined with other items to create new ones, ranging from composite materials to entire weapon systems. Or you can keep it simple and sell the stuff to the highest bidder.

PIMP YOUR RIDE

Swapping entire ships is nice and all, but what if you really liked the chassis of one and the engine of another? Why not combine the two? Yes, my dear captain, you're no longer confined to the bare metal shapes that form spaceships. Mix and match individual parts to form something special, something new, something that speaks to you. Incidentally, if it actually does start speaking to you, we advise seeking medical attention.

Don't buy yet if you like carriers!

One of my favorite aspects of the previous games was playing as a carrier, and the feeling of actually being a captain. I loved the ability in Warlords and 2 to command others to pilot your ship and do various actions: I mean, why is it most games have you fly a ship with literally hundreds of crew and still make you fly the dang ship? Um, Sulu? I am also very big on having minions in games. Necromancer in RPGs? Check. Drones and turrets in FPS games? Check. Carriers with fighter/bomber swarms? Check. If this sounds like you, DO NOT buy Starpoint Gemini 3, at least not yet. The devs "wanted to do something different", and this most certainly is... different. They may or may not implement carriers and deployable fighters later, in some as-yet-undetermined update, but look at this post and understand it has been a YEAR since they posted it: https://steamcommunity.com/app/977720/discussions/0/2986411348899027223/ For me, No Playable Carriers = No Purchase. The devs deleted my favorite part of the game series, and I don't feel any loyalty to a brand that doesn't do what I enjoy. Why should I? They design what they want, everybody else decides if they want to play it. Just be careful if you're someone like me who likes big honkin' ships that look to curbstomp the Deathstar. Still, on the plus side for some other player types, this game is much more focused on player-in-a-fighter gameplay. Starpoint Gemini 3: Minion Simulator! :)=) I am giving this game a 2 star rating to try and be neutral, as I understand not everyone is like me. 3 stars would be truly neutral, but I am docking 1 star from a 3 star rating because of literal years of people voicing concerns over various unlikeable "features" that the devs outright ignored (not just carriers, but also the story, character, module system and other things). My personal preference would give it a 1 star for making totally dumbass decision "just because we can", AND all the bugs they left in the other games.

Young, Dumb and Full of Space-Guns

Starpoint games always chase that Freelancer dream but never quite get there. Warlords was an interesting diversion into Fleet Management but SPG3 returns to main-series roots - solo pilot, zipping around doing missions, making bad guys dance the explodo waltz, upgrading your/your character's space-ride...it's a well-worn template a la Privateer, or even Darkstar One if anyone has played that. However this series has always lacked elegance. Controls seem overly fussy. Combat is...weird; ships tend to end up flopping around in front of you like landed fish. And it does feel like this time Little Green Men have aimed at the more casual space gamer. Dare I say it: the console gamer? If you're looking for something reasonably brainless and pretty to play, look no further. Avoid Trade. It doesn't work. Real Talk: the main character is a grade-A jackass. But, weirdly, he grows on you, and it's actually kinda fun listening to other characters have to deal with his dumb crap. And it's refreshing to have the chance to play a selfish, arrogant jerk instead of all these lily-white heroic-journey types. For the Faint of Eyes: the game uses character models from a decade ago. And the Voice Acting ranges from Decent to Cleaning Lady Was Asked To Voice Someone. For a game wrapped around a narrative it's a shame the story characters can be so...amateurish, but then Starpoint Games are no stranger to this, imo. Game engine is pretty but Starpoint's systems and sectors have always felt weirdly cramped; that feeling of walking only a couple of steps but game tells you it's a mile. SUMMARY: I've scored this quite highly because, for all its faults, it's an entertaining - if shallow - experience, perfect for winding the ol' ThinkMeat down after a hard/long day. **Word to the wise: do the upgrade grind early and often. The game will quickly overwhelm you if you just run through the missions.**

Is this finished? It feels like a teaser

I bought it when it was still in development and then I occasionally revisited it but I can't make heads nor tails of the story or the characters. It feels like the devs tried to show what they are up to and are literally unsure about whether or not it works and want to show it to early adopers so they can get critizism and go back to the drawing board and make it right (as many games do nowadays). But I was surprised when it was no longer in development at some point. Maybe the devs lost faith in their own game and just wanted to limit the damage and make at least a bit ROI from the sales. I hope they learn from the mistakes and make the next game better. If you want a really good game, go buy Everspace 2 instead.

Story of my childhood

Finally a game where the protagonist does not have pyschological issue, or beat down protagonist by the entire galaxy thumbdown and hammer him/his kind or the protagonist is filthy dirty mindset to begin with. Yes, some will say it's a bad story. Frankly, nobody acts that way, it is unreal but also a relief at the same time and pushes away from our reality of concerns and daily anxiety through HUMOR which is the paradox to our reality and what makes this game real fun to go through! With no honor, I follow the story in Easy mode and so far I LOVE IT. The protagnist has a goal and cheerfully goes for it with the help of his sidekick, so far a lovely story. Please make GEMINI 4 and dont lose your sense of humor

UNWORTHY TO HAVE STARPOINT GEMINI TITLE

I own SpG2, SpG warlords plus every dlc/expansion. For this title: Pros: jump/gate systems; wormhole systems; crafting system; pimping my gunship (only the ship); asteroid cavern where you can drone shoot(fish) space piranha (good money 1023credits/ piece and ,yes, you can farm it); blue print system; weapon system in stead of classes of weapon; non class hero class(in warlords vanguard class is useless); depo looting system; Cons: trade...NOPE! and 3 out of 7 capital ships are freighters (2 to 10(rarely) credits difference per product is NOT trade, if i invest 1credit i expect at least 0.2credits profit) you get more credits fighting; the way you upgrade your capital ship was new more than 10years ago, put 1point in hull and 50k and you get more hull... really?, why can't i pimp my battleship? what happened to warlords enhancement system? it worked, i liked it, you could find your style of gearing up; where is my 360degre view of the ship and how can i use all my battleship 18guns in a battle even if i don't use them evenly. why can't i join a faction or create my own. where is my warlords fleet?, no resources, no station build system, no station conquest, should i mention planet conquest? i think is too much... how do you use BLASTERS and SCATTERGUNS in a +15 enemy fight without dying (due to 500 and 450 range) 'cause warlords marauder class cloak is no more. you can do it with MACHINEGUNS and you will smash them with CANNONS. in what universe you can mount torpedo's onto a gunship?(you kinda need a frigate or destroyer), 6-12 hit's and there goes the capital ship. what's the point of Capital Ships if you can do that whit a gunship? Bugs: my drone sunk into the floor when i went to retrieve the awaken clone in campaign mode, same think in alien facility were i got Gaul 1 blue print. I hit lvl 40 and my enemy want to fight me no more, i can't find them any more nor i hear the audio warning that i'm about to jump to an enemy facility and they will fight me!
