If you are looking for Freelancer style handling of ships you wont find that in this game. It comes closest i have played since Freelancer but it isn't Freelancer control wise. Graphics are very nice cant complain about that. Game has no cut scenes like Freelancer so again not like Freelancer at all in that respect. Landing on a base is closer to X series then Freelancer. The controls could be a lot better then they are and I think they will continue to improve this game if people would ask for better controls. The UI is a bit rough not overly complex but it is rough. They also don't allow for use of all keyboard keys to hot keys that is bad because this game could run a lot better if you could use the keys you want from the keyboard. Finding loot after you kill something in a big fight is a little tough as loot can only be seen by the eye and not picked up on radar/scanner etc... Again some of these things i think will be taken care of in time this game has very good hard working Dev's and i think this game will be great once they get things ironed out more. Don't give up on this game once you get it just let the Dev's know on the forum what it is that disappointed you and see what they say. This review was mostly to let people that loved freelancer know this isn't freelancer 2 like some people are calling it. I hope this helps...

I played Freelancer. And it rocked. If someone told me that there is a game that will really deserve it's title as spiritual successor to Freelancer I wouldn't believe them. But now not only I consider that statement to be true but I became somewhat of a zealot. Starpoint Gemini 2 rocks, do not doubt that. It rocks just as Freelancer rocked back in the days, and it's capable of achieving much more. I really recommend this game to any space sim player. Not to mention that it's totally moddable, that it has developers that constantly interact with community on forums, that there are already many mods for the game and that it's really not expensive. You can be a pirate, trader, miner, even space taxi driver if you want. Only your imagination is the limit in a sandbox game like this one. It's worth its full price, not to mention 20% discount. So take off and enjoy exploring the beautiful Gemini universe.

I have been playing since Alpha (September 2013 release) and I have seen SPG2 come along in strides. SPG2 brings back many memories of quite a few spaces games I have played since the mid 80's onwards. One of the best Space gaming titles I have played in some time. Campaign takes you through a good storyline until it continues on in Sandbox or kick off in Sandbox from the start. Its a make it your own way in the game, from a miner, trader, combat commander, pirate, pretty much you name it and it can be roleplayed out in SPG2. Probably the best thing of all about SPG2 is the Dev Team, These people are one of the best I have had the pleasure of enjoying an alpha/beta release with. They are always responding to members posts, questions, technical help, and ideas. All I can say is, "If you enjoy space gaming, Buy SPG2 today. Large galaxy with a lot of things to do? That's neat. A lot of ships and factions to choose from? That's grand. A plot so bad I couldn't sit through the entire introduction? That's OK (you can turn it off). Frequent crashes and one glitch which corrupts EVERY saved game you have made in one go? Now THAT -- that is not cool. I'm not saying it's a bad game (although, even on a technical level, I was not as impressed with it as I was with Freelancer or X); but if you do intend to play it, give it some time to iron out the bugs. As it stands now, it's not worth the frustration.
