No bugs but a lot of googling

First-off: although I played the GOG version to the end, I didn't encounter any bugs. The game plays very well, offers a lot of flexibility in terms of exploration as well as ship building. Story is very well thought out and complex. The last star is missing because of two drawbacks. 1. Not nearly enough guidance through quests. There's a lot of information presented and I often failed to recognize what's important and what's not. Therefore, a lot of googling was required to move ahead with some of the late-game quests. 2. Some quests are bound to fail without a reload. A good example is the conversation with the Araona chief-in-command. He asks you questions and you have the answers in your log. But there is no way to interrupt the conversation and look for the relevant data. Also, you don't know how that conversation goes beforehand. Without google or a reload, I don't see how I could have not failed this conversation. Anyway, if you like sci-fi RPGs with a good story and strong exploration mechanics, go for this little gem.

Starflight clone that works!

Many have tried to recapture the spirit of exploration, mystery, and action that came together in the late 1980s for Starflight 1 and 2. Starcom Nexus really does it. It has a plot and can be humorous in its dialog. Fighting is intuitive but has enough diversity to keep me blasting away till endgame. Missions are more than just "fetch and return", some have multiple endings, and some can be frustrating as you have to fill in the blanks, but that's what sets this game apart from all the others. The game isn't procedurally generated which makes replay a bit rough, but then so were the original Starflights. The planning out of what anomalies are where is noticeable and appreciated. Again, it's that little edge that sets this title apart from so many others and delivers on the promise of exploring new reaches of space, finding interesting alien species, and either swindling or blasting them (or help - hey, do YOUR thing). If you're looking for deep character development and jaw dropping vistas, then this is not for you. It's an indie game with an indie price. If you want an engaging, nonlinear exploration and adventure game that doesn't take itself seriously while delivering a serious 20-30 hours of fun, then get this and recommend it so they make more. Last tip: be not afraid, go for the harder difficulties from the get-go.

Nice game - GOG version works just fine

I just wanted to add this to encourage undecided players to give it a try. Don't worry about those "bug" reports that say the game is unplayable or you can't finish it due to gamebreaking bugs. That is not true. There are some minor glitches, but nothing to worry about. I finished the game (again) yesterday and could do all quest, unlock all research except Swarm Probe Supressor (which is totally unneeded to advance your journey) and trigger dialogues when necessary.

Time suck!

If your target is a game that is so good that you get the just one more planet mentality, and before you know it is 1 AM in the morning, this is that game! Also if you do get this, I would HIGHLY recommend you play on the hardest level. Why? It affects the number of enemies and how well equipped they are. The fights turn into massively epic battles and it makes this game that much better! On normal, it is like a story mode and you become massively overpowered way too fast and it loses a lot of its appeal. Nothing can destroy you mid game on normal level. You can waltz in to a massive fight and blow everyone away, so it just becomes story at that point. I think the hardest level should have been the normal level and normal should have been story mode. You are not alone in this fight either. If you hide behind a friendly and let the enemies plasma hit them instead of you, you can cause a war between the aliens and this makes the battles even that much more epic! Not enough can be said about this one. It is a good one.
