One of the best Space RPG ever
Good storyline, interesting characters. I wished, this would never end.

Pretty much terrible.
First of all, this game has unit pathing problems, yes you read that right, in the vast openness of space with only minimal units and stations on the map your units will still get stuck behind the very few objects on any given map. Its unbelievable but it happens regularly. On top of that the music may seem nice at first but you'll quickly grow tired of hearing the same few tracks over and over and over. All of the unit sounds of acknowledgment and such have the same problem, they always say the same thing over and over and over, its water torture for the ear. There is also nothing to really do in this game, I mean nothing you do in game seems to matter, if you failed to complete your mission just retry and do everything the same way and most likely the random to-hit numbers will be in your favor this time and you'll win, there is nothing you can really do about it. There is also very little customization available, its pretty much just very gradual accumulation of upgrades and experience. You simply have to get it to get it but there are no actual strategic choices. Its a pretty terrible game, don't waste your money on this.

Good game, has a few issues.
The game is enjoyable once you get past the awkward translations in the interface and the unintuitive controls. If you are looking for a off the beaten path game that offers a substantial challenge, I say go for it.

Frustratingly bad
Awesome premise! An RPG in Space! Yes! Executed horribly: boo!!!!! Second mission: enemy missile carrier shows up. I order my squad to engage it, while my carrier uses it's guns on the lesser ships. Then the pilots.....do none of those things. They fly in wide, pointless arcs, firing on the escorts as the missile carrier, untouched, blows my carrier to kingdom come. I reload, this time, they just ignore my orders and fly in circles doing nothing. Add little things, like the inability to make the fps counter go away, nonsensical cut scenes, and painful to listen to music, and you end up with a pile of disappointment.

Who is praising this garbage?
This game had potential from the outset to be great but it is too linear. You can just go out and do stuff traveling between systems, its all mission based locking you into maps with little "go here kill X" mini missions within the main one (think mech warrior mercenaries for how missions become available over time). This game is stupidly difficult in the 'you only win by luck' sense too, mostly based on if the crap path finding/AI has your ship pointing at the enemies to shoot them before they point at you and kill your ships in seconds on the first volley!... As another review said, no game should have constant saving/reloading as a standard part of the gameplay!
