STAR WARS™: X-Wing Alliance™

No doubt one of the best games ever made. Great story telling and of course a must for every Star Wars fan. As long as XWA Upgrade itself doesnt work give the backdrop patch & 1920x1050 a try. With that even the vanilla XWA looks awesome.

After recently purchasing and playing all of the X-Wing/TIE Fighter games, I have to say that X-Wing Alliance is the one that holds up the best. I don't just mean the graphics (I actually prefer the sharp, unfiltered textures of the Windows 95/DOS days to the blurry textures of the turn of the century). The gameplay is simply the best in the series. It may lack the robust multiplayer options of X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, but the skirmish mode is still fun and the story is actually one of the best from any Star Wars game that I've played.

Went YEARS without being able to play this superior game. DarkSaber's shippatch brings this game FULLY into the modern age of crappy console games and BLOWS THEM OUT OF THE WATER. There were NO HEADACHES AT ALL installing and running this game, which I already own in CD format. For $10 it is WELL worth it. They have automated the installing and it worked perfectly fine on a Radeon R9 200 series card that refused to work when installed from disk (which had also taken a massive CD burning production, since Win 7 wouldn't accept old - but superior - CD software installer!) Buy this $50 value game for 1/5 the price! You will not be sorry!

Xwaupgrade now officially supports this version! I was unable to launch the game when installed from GOG Galaxy, looks like some libraries did not get installed. Managed to get it working by manually installing (automatically imported to the Galaxy library).

We cried for it and GOG heard. Now they have delivered. For me the this was the best in the series and probably the best star wars flight sim to date. I never got right to the end when I originally played it. Something I intend to rectify this time around. The game has a great story and you take part in some uber battles against numerous capital ships. There is also a custom battle mode where you can set up a fight and fly numerous ships. I can still remember the adrenalin pumping through my veins as my x-wing squadron approached Vaders star destroyer. Now I can relive those days once again.
