Great game, awful port

It's clear this game never got the real "GOG treatment" it deserves. The game runs at 1100+ fps on my pc, which means that everything happens in hyperspeed. Frame limiting is the only way to make this game playable, and with my particular setup, I am unable to force a frame limit ingame through Nvidia control panel, hence making the game literally unplayable. We need an in-game frame limiter. Until then, the best way to play this game is with an emulator (Ares and Simple 64 both work well). Thank you as always GOG, and I hope you can get to this one soon.

Played this game on the N64 growing up

I've been hoping that Nintendo Online was going to add this game. I didn't even know there was a PC port that seems to be better. I'm still on the first level, I need to get the controls figured out. but it runs!

A classic on the Nintendo 64, but...

Shadows of The Empire was an ambitious project. The first fully 3D Star ars game, where the developers wanted a ton of variety and to make you feel inside the movies. So you have a Hoth Battle, a huge train level, chasing sections, shooting sections, platforming sections and so on. If you played the N64 release you would probably say they achieved it and this game is one of your best memories. But to be honest it's hard to overlook all its faults. First, the controls are pretty clunky. Some of the cameras feel like a plane is falling out of the sky and spinning at the same time. The huge levels with only 3 checkpoints(and I'm talking about 30 minute levels here). The strange physics on platforming and walking(it feels like you're on ice). I'd say if you are a huge Star Wars fan, there's fun to be had, but expect some frustration now and then.

Still Very Good but by No Means Perfect

Shadows of the Empire is still a very fun game... most of the time. Honestly it depends on the level. There are two kinds of stages; vehicle stages and on foot sections. Most of the vehicle stages (Hoth, Skyhook, Mos Esiley) are solid and are really fun to play through. The vehicles control well and the levels are energetic and fun to play. The on foot sections are not that great. Some of them are good (Echo Base & Gall Spaceport) mostly because of the atmosphere is great and the enemy placement is not so bad. The rest of the on foot levels (Ord Mantell, Imperial City Sewers, Xizor's Palace, and Imperial Freighter) can be really frustrating due to the tank controls, floaty jump, poor blaster play, and the fact that enemies will see you before you see them. These levels really drag the game down. One final note is that considering when this game came out the graphics are phenomenal and the game runs very smoothly. The sound track is also nice, a mix of both songs from the films as well as some new tune which are very good. Shadows of The Empire is still a fun game overall. In my opinions the good levels outweigh the bad ones and the game has a stage select screen so you can return to the levels you like anytime. For 6 dollars it should worth a look for most gamers and it is especially worth it for Star Wars fans .

Classic!

For some reason I remember this game being unplayable, but that's probably because I only tried the N64 version as a teen (which had the most godawful controller of all time, let's be honest with ourselves). So maybe my expectations were just low going into it this time around, and maybe I'm just nostalgic for original-trilogy-era Star Wars, but I'm having a blast! Ground-based gunfights, space battles, jet packs, swoop bikes, Hoth, Boba Fett, IG-88, all the best John Williams music cues, and those classic LucasArts level designs. What else can you ask for in a Star Wars game? It would be nice to be able to reassign key controls and adjust mouse sensitivity, but that's my only gripe. Minor issue.
