Description
It is a time of great rejoicing in the galaxy. Luke Skywalker, with the help of Wedge Antilles, has blown up the Death Star. But there is little time to celebrate. The mighty Empire is gathering strength for a determined, all-out assault on the Rebel forces.

To save the Rebel Alliance from this Imperial onslaught, Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles have assembled the Rogue Squadron, a group of twelve of the most skilled battle-tested starfighter pilots. You will fly into battle as Luke Skywalker, to engage in intense, fast-paced planetary air-to-ground and air-to-air missions ‒ dogfights, search and destroy, reconnaissance, bombing runs, rescue assignments, and more.
  • Take on the Galactic Empire in X-wings, Y-wings, A-wings, V-wings, and snowspeeders.
  • Prove you’ve got what it takes against a slew of the Empire’s best and baddest, including AT-AT walkers, AT-STs, TIE fighters and more.
  • Test your flying skill through extraordinary environments ‒ over water, through canyons, deserts, and volcanic regions.
  • Astonishing 3D details include real time lighting and special effects (explosions, smoke, engine glow, tracer fire and more).

Good luck getting controls to work

I've tried installing from Galaxy and using the manual offline installers. I've checked and unchecked compatability options for both EXEs. I've tried both my Logitech Extreme 3D joystick and my DualSense controller, including calibrating both in the Rogue Squadron launcher. I've tried it with and without Steam running in the background. I'm playing on Windows 10. Can't get the game to recognize either input device. Clicking to set the default buttons for the joystick in-game does nothing. The game runs smoothly, but using mouse and keyboard the ship is impossible to control and gets further and further away from the camera as you (try to) maneuver around. I loved this game as a kid and really, really wish I could play it again, but it looks like it's not going to happen. Beware, it seems to be a lottery whether or not it'll work for you.

Windows 10 doesnt work

It used to work and now with the latest windows 10 patches that have come out, the main screen after the intro movies is black. The game stays black with the music and title music with no picture. Compatibility mode and admin rights didn't fix it either. Love the game but tired of every windows version messing up my classic games I play.

No nostalga, just honest review

Star Wars Rogue Squadron has always been one of my favourite games. While the game is playable, my main issues with the GOG.com version are as follows: * Game feels a bit laggy - this is more likely the result of running on Windows 8.1 rather than the GOG version, as retail does the same. I've tried a few things, but nothing has improved and it is a long way short of the experience I have on XP with the same setup (using retail). * Cannot configure joystick correctly - the button bindings only show up when running in Windows 95 compatibility (after pressing 'default' settings), but even then I couldn't map functions to a different button other than the default. Bottom line: a very big let down. I think I'll just stick with the retail versions that I have and retain XP for them. This is just my experience on my computer setup: Windows 8.1; 4 GB RAM; i7 3.6 GHz; Nvidia GTX 780.

Arcade flight at its finest

This game has such excellent arcade flight, you may find yourself wanting to pump quarters into your computer. Another great thing about the game is that is incredibly compact if, like me, you have limited hard drive space. I initially thought the number of under 50 megabytes must be a misprint, but it's not. The game is very well put together to make the best use of a small amount of space. You will fly many ships in many battles, and in most of them, you can even use first-person cockpit view. Unlike the early X-Wing and Tie-Fighter games, the cockpit bounces and jumps as you fly the ship. When this game was announced, I was elated. Prior to this game, there was another set of games called Rebel Assault. Those were combination interactive movie/rail shooter/galaga-type arcade games, but you didn't really get to control the ships. Mostly you just pointed and shot. When Rogue Squadron was announced, I warily picked it up on sale. As soon as I put it in, I thought to myself "Now that's what RA should have been!" No rails at all, just missions and flight. In this game, you will get to fly X-Wings, A-Wings, Speeders, and even at least one vehicle from the prequels. The missions really make you feel like you're Luke Skywalker taking on The Empire. Some of the missions can be very challenging, especially if you use the set cameras. For example, in the first mission it is extremely difficult in 3rd person "arcade" view. Hit F8, though, and you will find yourself in the cockpit of the ship, and it will be a lot easier. It's good to play around with the camera angles to make the best ones work for you. Enjoy!
