STAR WARS™ Rebellion

This is about the game itself rather than the GOG release. The MP destroys friendships. This being said, anyone who cares little enough about you to laugh at killing Thrawn and a Death Star (as well as a couple of other commanders whose names escape me) in one battle probably shouldn't be your friend. 15 years later I still fume about that when reminded.

I got this game and i spent countless hours on it, if you like strategy games like Moo, SEIV GCiV etc you will find this game interesting, still compared to the most famous its surely less complex. Its my fav Star Wars strategy game and i even tried to make it works on win7x64 in the last years without success, so im glad to see it on GOG, i will get it. The game is a 4X strategy game surely not perfect but still engaging and rewarding, the fact its a Star Wars one helps to make it more appealing, infact if it was a no brand 4x game prolly i would not give the 5 stars rating but maybe a 4, the music and atmosphere are great and the presence of the saga heroes with specific perks (classic saga) is great. Going on its a bit annoying the need to send tons of drones to scan planets constanty to prvent AI actions and sabotages if you wanna play really perfect, anyway overall i surely reccomend this title to anyone interested in 4x strategy games.

I bought the game when it came out in 1998. This is the game I have most played in my life, it is so addictive. Ok it is old and the graphics are way passed but I can't let it go. My old CD version was not working anymore so I bought it on GOG and it worked nicely on W10. When I upgraded to W11, I was horrified to see that the game wouldn't launch anymore. I contacted the support and we tried several fixes to no avail. I decided to wait and 6 months later I saw the post of Penthrax to install from the Offline version. And it works, thank you very much for the tip Penthrax ;-) Hope you will all enjoy this great strategic game.

One of the things I've found missing from the more slickly made, more modern Star Wars universe turn-based games is that there's no real mystery; you can tell where the fleets are coming from, you can set up defenses on whatever lines of approach along which a fleet will arrive. With this game, you can send your fleets anywhere, and it may take months of galaxy time to get there, which means that you might ALSO have an enemy fleet show up in orbit around ANY planet. You can send out spies, have intelligence that a planet's orbit is clear, only to show up and find out that the enemy's arrived ahead of you with a huge fleet. There's no communication with fleets in hyperspace, so there's plenty of time to try and strike team in place to take out that shield facility. It's also possible to have a planet in your sphere of influence which seems to be loyal, only to start seeing unrest. You send in an intelligence team, only to find out that an enemy fifth column has been set up on your planet, starting a rebellion against your governance, forcing you to take steps to quell it. It takes patience, which is something that most games don't take into account these days.

Nice work GOG - adding the graphics fix has made this the best version of the game!
