STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic

KOTOR is one of the few sci-fi RPGs out there, and one of the best. It's also an amazing RPG regardless of setting. The solid gameplay, the immersive music, the breathtaking (for its time, and still holding today) visuals, the well-fleshed characters - everything comes together beautifully. The best part of it, though, is the story. I really wished the movies were as complex and atmospheric as KOTOR's. Another great thing about KOTOR is that you can see the origins of BioWare's later signature gameplay (paragon vs renegade system, romance within party, etc.) right here. It's like a journey in time, and after playing it every BioWare RPG becomes, in a sense, predictable - from Dragon Age and Jade Empire to Mass Effect. What else can I say? If you're an RPG fan, play it! If you're a sci-fi nerd, play it! If you're a Star Wars buff, play it! If you like great music, play it! If you like video games, play it now!

This game to this day is the most immersive you will get in the starwars universe. If you like a proffesonally written story in your games that works well with the gameplay then this is the game for you. I only have one complaint and its not for Bioware. It's for GOG, get off your butts and make this game backwards compatable also make it work with the GOG client. 5 of 9 games I own dont work with it.

This game accomplished something so few games have. It felt like actually existing in the star wars universe. I found it to be completely absorbing. I can't believe the price here. I am going to play this again. I would like to add my voice to the chorus and say this game is one of the best I have ever played. The second was okay but not quite like the magic of the first.

I absolutely adore this game, I was a kid when I first played this game. I envy everyone who will play this game for the first time and experience the wonderful story, character development and nonlinear gameplay. From technical point of view the GOG version runs smoothly on my Linux (Linux Mint 18 Sarah) laptop (using Wine of course). I recommend this game to any Star Wars fan or old school game enthusiast.

This game is FUN! Have you ever wanted to be the noble Jedi Knight who saves the galaxy with a rag-tag crew of misfits in a memorable ship that's practically a character in its own right? This is the game for you. Have you ever wanted to bask in the power of the dark side and cause a family to murder each other over a misunderstanding while your assassin droid applauds in the background? This is the game for you. Whether you decide to take over the Sith Empire or lead the Old Republic to victory, you will have a blast doing it. While new, real-time action oriented gamers might balk at the seemingly archaic D20 system, the action is fluid enough that you practically forget about the dice rolls in the background and learn how to maximize your damage output to swiftly and decisively defeat your enemies. There's a solid 40+ hours of gameplay here, and with 12 different potential class combinations and two paths (light or dark) with two different endings and a ton of ways to get to those endings across seven planets, a capital ship and a space station. The story is almost perfect, and it's a shame a third was never made, and that the second has had to wait for a dedicated fanbase to finish themselves. It stands alone as the best Star Wars content since the Original Trilogy, and easily holds up even today in the Disney Era of Star Wars. There are only two games I've ever bought 3 times - Morrowind, and Knights of the Old Republic; this game is high quality with a ton of content from an era when studios cared more about original content that microtransactions and DLC. One last thing to note is that there is still a dedicated fan base for this game and its sequel, with a ton of great mods out there. I also highly recommend the Knights of the Old Republic and Tales of the Jedi comic series, originally published by Dark Horse, that serve as a good foundational backstory to the events and era of the game.
