It brings back memories

Was hunting this game on other platforms and seen so many Star Wars bundles but sadly no Star Wars Ep 1: Racer. Bought the game and 3h later finished it, I could not stop playin this wonderful game, so many memories playin single and multiplayer. Worth the price. Thank you GOG....hope they will approve the release of Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed

Better than the movie!

Now this truly is a GOOD OLD GAME. Forget everything you think you know about the infamous Episode 1: this game is the true legend. Essentially it's a high speed racer in the style of F-Zero and other console games, but the controls (keyboard) are incredibly tight and responsive, gameplay is flawless and tracks are all superb and full of little twists and secrets. There simply is no other game like this for the computer, period. I haven't played this in a long time because it was hard getting it to run on anything modern than an early 2000's computer, so thank you GOG for that too. I confess I haven't yet tried this version of the game, but I will update my review if for some reason it doesn't run well. The game itself, though, is excellent and strongly recommended. And don't mind the ugly, early 3D polygons; you'll be going so fast it won't matter.

Now *this* is pod racing!

So far so perfect. The game runs properly at incredibly speeds, a solid 60 FPS, controls are on point (even for keyboard, though joystick took some setting up), the resolution patch works great *however* resolutions higher than 1920x1440 seem to have frame-drops, and I haven't yet gotten an opportunity to test out multiplayer, though it seems to lack the two player split-screen the N64 had, in favor of up to 8 play LAN. (and shorter loadscreens than both N64 and Dreamcast) If you like fast paced racing games, don't hesitate to pick this one up! :)

The Definitive Version

I had a real love/hate relationship with this game back when it was released on the Nintendo 64. I loved the speed and the graphics, but I hated the framerate which was passable until you got to the 3rd tier of racing where the game turned almost into a slideshow and the controls got ultra sluggish. You could get some of those frames back by lowering the resolution, but then you had another problem. You couldn't see! Then along came the Dreamcast version which had sharp visuals and a steady 30 frames per second. By that time I had already moved on to other games and had no interest in owning a Dreamcast anyway. Fast forward to 2018 and here I see the PC version has just been released on GOG. Highest resolution coupled with 60 frames per second. Yeah, I no longer have a love/hate relationship with this game. Just love. It runs super butter smooth and plays wonderfully with my XBOX One controller.
