Wait, this is not a joke?
First, I *am* very glad to see Dark Forces get some love! But this costs more than I paid for the ORIGINAL in the mid-90s! What are you thinking?? We have lived with the old graphics for almost 3 decades, I can still run the original (for free), mods still work (for free), mouse support and everything else I ALREADY HAVE FOR FREE. So what, EXACTLY, are you *really* offering for such an exorbitant price, hmm? Sincere question - I know you went back and forth with the maker of The Force Engine and some others to use tidbits of FREEWARE. Now you're selling us freeware and charging half of a triple-A production price? Cute. Very cute. Perhaps whenever this is 85% off and I feel like showing a token of appreciation to Nightdive for taking up this project, I will purchase this. but honestly - if you want that kind of money, you better bring more to the table! Like, oh, something more flexible for modding? Maybe like a GZDoom for Dark Forces? THAT I would buy! Especially if it was simpler - whenever I played DF as a kid, I always wanted to pull a Remote droid out of my pocket and sic it on Imperial officers while cackling madly... hell, if you had included even THAT as a new weapon, I would have bought this at (2/3rd's) the price asked for. If the DLC was free... Maybe make a randomly generated mode? Maybe add in cut content that LucasArts just couldn't do in the time allotted? Maybe... But nope. You had THREE DECADES. And all we got is what we already have (again, FOR FREE) with a higher pixel count and not needing DOSBox. Nothing left to say, except thanks for the effort and nice try. You get slightly more than the lowest score for the attempt, and the fact that *if* the original DF stops working on modern systems, we will have an alternative - preservation of history is important. But essentially selling freeware is pretty damn low.
Is this helpful to you?
