Like the idea of large-scale multiplayer war games complete with tanks, speeder bikes, and wacko Star Wars mounts? Hate the idea of listening to some tween tell you how great your mom is in a completely inappropriate fashion? BF2 2005 has you covered.
It lacks the graphical beauty of the EA reboots, but the graphics do bring the multitude of Star Wars locations to life in surprisingly high detail. Plus, there are numerous graphical overhauls available if you search for them. I recommend watching any "X Best BF2 2005 Mods" video on YouTube to find stuff that's right for you.
Gameplay wise, you're set. Combat feels like it has weight to it, having a tie-fighter blow up right next to you as a rebel flies into your capital ship and blasts it to bits will give you shell shock, and there are plenty of units, weapons, equipment, and vehicles from the Star Wars universe to immerse you and keep the experience fun. My only issue with gameplay is that a controller, while technically able to work, doesn't have enough buttons and there are no streamlined pre-configs to set things up like they were on console versions.
However, you can't forget about the briefly mentioned mods. Playing in the clone wars and galactic civil war eras is great, but even though the movies are questionable, it is nice to add the First Order era on a whim and feel like you're in a whole new game. Along with graphical overhauls, new game modes, map packs galore, etc, you won't have to worry about running out of content to play.
It's not as tight and modern-fps-y as the second reboot, but it does so much more in terms of satisfying the local-play crowd, and I couldn't recommend it enough. Plus, NO DRM OR EXTRA LAUNCHERS!!! I already owned it on Steam, but the opportunity to own it and know it was mine was well worth buying it a second time.
This game is one of the few games that I can say will truly last the test of time.
As a kid when I watched the Star Wars movies the only thing that I wanted more than anything else was to relive the battles from the movies as a Rebel, Stormtrooper, Clone, etc. Lo and behold we get this game and it nails everything I could've wanted.
The battles are large and chaotic.
The Campaign is very impressive and adds unique maps/scenarios.
If the Campaign is not your thing then you can try Galactic Conquest where you can battle for control of planets across the galaxy
If you just want to jump into the action then no prob. Instant Action has plenty to do and will keep you coming back for more. Every battle you jump in is unique and the outcome will never be the same.
And if you think that isn't enough, then head out to ModDB/NexusMods to download a PLETHORA of mods right at your finger tips that can add so much more to an already dense game.
This is seriously one of the greatest games of all time.
Just a good fun simple game where you fight as a soldier or a sith/jedi on the battlefield. Don't expect anything too realistic with physics. It's got a weird goofy 3d cartoony vibe like a much sharper and cleaner looking starwars-ized version of team fortress 2 but more serious looking. It's just got a goofy vibe to it even though it tries to be very serious. It's not trying to be comedic, but rather the voice acting and graphics and the way the characters move and the animations when they die makes me laugh because of how nonsensical it appears. This game appears very different from the movies and feels much less realistic, so much to the point where you will laugh and ask "How did that happen? WHAT? HAHA!?" It's disappointing for me because of what I had hoped it would be, but it's still LOADS of fun. I added a bunch of mods to it to help spice it up and it helped a little, but be careful as most mods are very buggy and cause crashing. Great game, fun to come back and play every now and then.
Great game, great story, none of the modern Star Wars titles today can't even compare to these classics.I mean back in the day i was excited to play for long periods of time, getting lost in their universe like i was part of it. Like a marathon playing on Saturday morning til the evening even getting a LAN party with my highschool buddies with this game was so memorable. Staying the entire WEEKEND at my friend's home coming home Sunday evening. Good days, hey if your on the fence still buy this game its 9.99 no microtransaction bullcrap like todays games.
