STAR WARS™ Battlefront (Classic, 2004)

I've spent many hours on this game. Being immersed in a section of the Star Wars galaxy has a strong appeal. You have moments where you feel like a real Billy Badcat. On the other hand, a few levels are almost impossible to beat. It seems to require a fair amount of luck, and I don't like playing a level 50 times just to see if I can get one 10-second section of gameplay to go right.

Not a port. Console is blessed to even have experienced this gem as this was clearly inspired by Battlefield 1942. This is the all time best battlefront. The maps were tremendous, every battle was breath taking and no OP Jedi.

Ever since they remastered Star Wars BattleFront 1 and 2 for the current generation consoles, in doing so, they had removed the abaility to play them on the Xbox One if you had the original disc copies. I decided to buy BattleFront 1 for PC on here and it has been well worth it. Either GoG or the game will detect controllers plugged in, so that is very helpful, unlike Steam where you have to jump through a bunch of hoops to make it work, then pray they don't update it and it doesn't remember you controller or control button binds. Overall, same game as it was back in 2004. I'm running the game on an Asus Q55L from like 2015 with an i7 and 940m graphics card and there has been no issues. Yes the game still freezes on loading screesn, but unlike the console versions, it eventually gets going without issue.

Star Wars: Battlefront is a classic, and I still highly recommend playing it...just don't buy it from GOG or Steam. They revived official online servers, as a gimmick to get you to buy a game you likely already own, but the game's unplayable. Online multiplayer is laggy and sparsely populated. But even the singleplayer is ruined due to a number of changes to the way the game is rendered. Aspect Ratio is changed, so that the weapon models are off screen and camera is very zoomed in. Objects in the distance are invisible, and instead the sky texture is just mirrored on the ground. They completely ruined the look of the game. Does it still run? Sure. Is it any fun to play with these glaring flaws? No, not really. Sad thing is, earlier versions didn't have this issue (nor did they have online servers). If GOG just undid the bad changes but kept the online, the game would be fine.
