Amazing Game

I just got this yesterday and it brings back a lot of memories of lost weekends. This is definitely Battlefield but in the Star Wars universe. It's very well done and my biggest thing about this is lots to do with regard to single-player if you're a single player fan like me. Lots of maps to play on, lots of vehicles, just lots of Star Wars awesomeness in this game. Think of this as a sandbox game, it's open world and you run around and pretty much do whatever. Blow things up, repair things, shoot, take over map points... etc etc. Comparing these games to the new Battlefront hames is pointless though. The new games have their place in the gaming world and many including myself do compare this to the old Battlefield games. What I will say is look at the modern Battlefield games and then the modern Battlefront games. They have gone in the same direction therefore there's no comparision. What I will say, this game is extremely fun, will take a lot of hours of your time because of the immersive action you'll find yourself in, and it's definitely worth the money. I will say that anyone who own this should pick of it's 2005 successor as well. Both very well done and well worth it. I still play both a lot and love every minute of it. Thanks GOG for bringing this amazing classic back, you had it, it disappeared for unknown reasons, and now it's back hopefully for good. Get this one all, it's definitely worth it.

Bushnell's Law

This game is a quintessential example of Bushnell's Law. Seriously. The controls are easy to learn... just use WASD and mouse aim. AI aren't stupid in Jabba's place. Oh, and there's multiplayer... still. OH YEAH! Thanks to the folks at SWBFGamers, this game has easy to set up multiplayer. Just drop in a file, make a quick change to a system file and off you go. The only thing I dislike about this game is that there's no way to defend from the NPC Heroes. Having Vader follow you around Bespin: Platforms is the best setup for that horror nightmare you'll be having now.

My review: A comparison with BF2 (2005)

I liked BF1 more because I never played online. +BF1 had no sprint but a roll, which if you knew about this, you could get to vehicles before your friends in co-op. wink wink +No bonus weapons. Seemed fairer. +Droidekas were the fastest (since there was no sprint; established them as beasts) +Droidekas could be exploited by hugging them in a blindspot +Vehicles had no boost (Walkers with boost in BF2 looked stupid) +I liked the old classes more +The old grenade launcher was op with its blast radius +BF1 had nice level design with good variation (BF2 levels all felt bigger [cause it had sprint ofc]) (Rhen Var, Kashyyk Docks, Bespin Platforms, Tatooine Dune Sea, Geonosis felt enormous and more like a battlefield, etc. -No space levels... :( hated that -You couldn't play as Tusken raiders/ local races... BF2 had this -Conquest did not feel limited to a 4-5 planets... BF2 gave you a galaxy map and better progression -No republic Gatling gun -No BF2 Wookie class -No Hero v Villain mode (they only pose as tanks with one-hit sabers) -Less Episode 3 maps (BF2 had lots) -No Death Star map (I'm not sure how easy it is run mods in bf1 but I got plenty of map, class, graphical, and ui mods to work in bf2) ...Now as much as I love BF1 and 2, 1 was simple fun to me and 2 was the perfect sandbox. I was also the last soldier in plenty of BF1 instant action games where ~100+ AIs were left and I had to survive with remaining allies I told to follow me... THAT'S GAMING. So... I revisit BF1 more often simply on surviving single player playlists I set. I set my own challenge not intended by devs as an actual game mode and the game seems like its MY game. My unconventional proving grounds to annihilate 100+ enemies as a final lone wolf squad... BF1 is a slower game with charm. BF2 is a star wars sandbox. I'm glad I experienced both.

This is a player who hates FPS games

But I love this one somehow At first I thought it was just because of the Star Wars label, but then I bought Fire Warrior here on GOG recently. I'm glad I did, because it helped me realize why I love this game in particular despite loving both the Star Wars and 40k franchise lore Classic Battlefront feels so alive, at least for me. The chaos of battle where this particularly incompetent soldier has to fire desparately at enemies is thrilling. The Single Player is lively enough that I don't need to worry about the shame of constant defeat. Yeah, sure, fights might get needlessly drawn out if the AI is sorta incompetent, or maybe if I were more skilled the game might feel less "alive" and exciting, but from what I can tell this game does well with its mechanics, its class variety (even if both factions function similarly/identically in that way), and how each map feels distinct. Maybe you're way more skilled at FPS games, and your experience might be different, but for me this game is really fun despite my lack of skill at this type of game. The grahics might be a bit dated by now, and I've seen AI allies and enemies alike doing domb things like getting killed quickly, but hey doesn't war get pretty chaotic?
