After 6 hours of gameplay, Stalker 2 combines what is best in previous games and adds more. A lot more. You can tell it has been influenced by Metro and Chernobylite but in good way - it is still good old Stalker! Atmosphere is thicker than Shadow of Chernobyl, and mechanics are better than Call of Prypiat.
Graphics and world... density is phenomenal.
If you liked any of the previous games, you will love Stalker 2 with all your Heart... of Chernobyl.
Overall it's good, there are a few things I find slightly strange, like triggers that spawn events as you're almost standing on top of them though I haven't seen this happen every time. I recall in the earlier stalker games they would give the player some distance on spawns.
The game needs some patching as it takes too long to load when I want to play it, like 10 mins of loading shaders is just too long. I don't have a great PC but it's good enough to match the medium spec recommendation yet the game lags and stutters on occasion.
once the game gets some patches it'll be great and feels like a stalker game, expect it to be difficult! I've had to reload several times already and I've been emersed in it's world regardless of how buggy it currently is. if you're on the fence give it some time to bake before you buy it.
I have played Stalker 2 for about 40 hours now: enough to form an opinion. This is from the perspective of a high-end machine (7800X3D, rtx 4090, 4TB SSD); I understand that other combinations have more issues so expect mileage to vary. I have encountered no game stopping bugs. The game looks great and runs smoothly on epic settings. I played all of the other Stalker games and Stalker Anomaly when new and this game has a similar feel. The locations are a mix of the familiar and unfamiliar making exploration fun. The map is quite large. I do agree that many aspects of the game need work. However hundreds of mods are already available and they address many concerns regarding A-life, economy, balance, etc. Adding mods is easy and allows one to tailor the game extensively. The Stalker team is responsive and have produced several patches.
Bottom line: I found the base game felt... off at release. For example I tended to spend more on ammunition and repairs than I was making. However, I have been running it with 12 mods and it is a completely different experience. So much fun! I am satisfied with the game right now and expect it to improve.
it has an abysmal fps drop and that my computer runs heavier games but just in case I put everything on low in configuration and anyway I didn't last even 30 min playing before they killed me because of the bad performance it has
I play this game on a powerful setup and I'm still asking myself if I made a gift to my PC or if my PC is a gift to this game. Please know I did not play previous releases (Call of Pripyat, Shadow of Chernobyl) before buying this game so I didn't assume or expect anything in particular.
IMHO, at this point this is THE immersive sim of all immersive sims and the indicated times to beat - especially if you try to do all the side missions and get all the hidden weapons and armors - is vastly underestimated. Even if there is a main mission and a plethora of side missions the game FEELS as if it is open ended because there is so much to explore compared to all other immersive sims I know of.
Taking out Varan and his crew was the most thrilling experience I had in any video game I played in the last 30 years.
