Description
SpellForce 3 - The perfect blend between RTS and RPG!

It is the year 518. The rebellion of the renegade mages, known as the Mage Wars, has been quashed by the Crown. However, it was a Pyrrhic victory: Whole regions have fallen into anarchy, refugees roam the lands in search of shelter, and a mysterious, deadly plague called the “Bloodburn” has arisen and is spreading rapidly.

In times like these people cling to any sign of hope they can find. The Purity of Light, led by a charismatic man called Rondar Lacaine, claims that mages are the source of all misfortune – and that only the second coming of Aonir, the father of all gods, will return Eo to its former splendor.

The story takes place before the acclaimed SpellForce: The Order of Dawn.

Features:

  • Innovative Mix: Unique gameplay blending RTS and RPG naturally together
  • Create & Customize: Create your own hero and choose between distinct skill trees
  • Build to Fight: Raise your own army and fight epic mass battles
  • Epic Storyline: Immerse yourself in a rich world - Unravel the secrets behind the current situation in Nortander. Explore Eo, a fully-realized world filled with interesting characters and heart-wrenching stories.

  • Experience an epic tale: Enjoy a fully-voiced 30+ hour campaign on your own or with friends in the campaign coop mode. Face opponents of all skills in the online battles.
  • Multiplayer: Strong multiplayer component with various modes - Compete against each other in the PvP and Domination mode or play cooperative either together on one faction or classic where everybody plays a faction.

Absolutely worth it.

First of all I want to tell you that this game doesnt deserve 5 stars but I just wanted to compensate those nonsensical 1 or 2 stars reviews so I gave it 5... But its definitely worth 4 stars in my opinion. I loved SpellForce 2, I was so happy when I saw that devs didnt abandoned SF2 and were sill releasing new content for it. I was sceptical about SF 3 but actually its like SF2 but far more better! Im happy that SF3 happened, it has so much content in it. And if the devs will support game with content like SF2 then Oh boy! I wish to THQNordic and to Grimlore team all the best. PS: Be aware of bugs... PPS: Still less bugs than in Bethesda game :D

Oddly compelling

I got this several months ago and sort of forgot about it. I then revisited and have not been able to stop playing. If you like old school fantasy RPGs but want moments of grand bloody battles, then this is perfect. The most valid criticism I have seen is that neither the RPG nor the RTS bits of the game could stand on their own. I am not sure if I agree with that, especially on the RPG side because the story is fantastic. But the broader point is they don't have to stand on their own. The sum is greater than its parts.

Outstanding labor of love

Writing this 20 minutes after completing the game, and what an amazing ride. I was very interested in this game the moment it was announced and I saw the first trailers, but what ended up happening was I got sucked into Original Sin 2 as well as other personal things and completely forgot about it - but it was on the wishlist. I bought it, finally, on sale a few weeks ago and upon finishing it, I am immediately going to pick up its expansion if this game is anything similar to the quality presented in this game. I was mesmerized by the world building, character development, pacing of the story and RPG elements from start to finish. The world feels believable in a fantastical setting, which is a remarkable feat in itself as sometimes things simply seem a bit far-fetched - but no not here. What is great about Eo is that it is a very relatable universe to our own reality; fanatics, idealists, pragmatists, political issues, etc. It's easy to see the parallels and how the developers took elements of reality and made a world of their own. I REALLY loved all the different types of people and issues in the game. It sinked its claws in quite deep. Characters, particularly the ones you get close to, are extremely well written too. All of them have interest backstories, some of them deeply moving - and progressing in their backstories offers rewards in the form of ultimate kinds of abilities. And boy the story - it's so well paced. There were some genuine surprises and brutal moments, and it's paced well enough in that it slows at the right moments and reaches a crescendo in its most important moments. Gameplay is an RTS/RPG hybrid mix, similar to that of WarCraft 3, except that you can slow down time and pick abilities to use on heroes. It's really fun, and heroes get crazy powerful. This review is already too long but other major pluses: the OST, voice acting, visuals and art direction. Negs would be technical issues, bugs and scripting. Overall though, amazing game!

Not very good as an RPG or an RTS

Let me preface all of this by saying I did not finish this game. I played as much as I could stomach but I don't think there's anything here I would enjoy if I kept doing it. I like RPGs, and I like RTS games. The best way I can describe this game is that it was made by people who didn't enjoy either genre. RPG side: Dialogues with 1 choice to progress, sometimes you have a choice but outside of 1 time it doesn't carry over past that conversation. Bad awareness of circumstances (I can't think of a term for it) - Characters talk and act as if something happened when it clearly didn't (Example: I ran past enemies to free a prisoner and he was shocked that I "killed them all", when they were still chasing me), and conversations that imply I made choices that I avoided earlier. I play RPGs to have my views and ideas challanged or contrasted against others and forced to explore their consequences, and it didn't happen here. You have about 6 classes to chose from (you can have 3 per character) with about 6 skills per class. Most are boring. What can I say about the 'bash enemy with shield' skill? It's as generic as you can get. Anyone who played a diablo clone would fall asleep just reading these skill descriptions. The lack of abilities and limit of 3 to use at a time, means that soon levelups stop having any meaning other than the stat bonus that gives you some extra HP, or something equally unimaginative. Strategy: Limited to building in a specific area, many maps have too many bases to manage, you have even less control over workers, a system that locks resources to only the base they were harvested in with a caravan that doesn't work. One of the 2 units you start with is a guy with a torch. There are about 7 units per race (I think) and more interesting units could have been there, but instead there is a guy with a stick that's on fire. So yeah, units arent very fun either. I would like to elaborate, and there is also good stuff, but I have a word limit.

WOW ! Big thanks

GoG and THQ. I really appreciate your work ... Titan quest and Spellforce, both before christmas. Nice updates/ DLC and such a good long term support. Good Job :D Wether you like the games or not. Just the way they're treatin their own games is respectable.
