Awesome,
Souldiers is awesome, the players who enjoy this type of game will love this title, it has all of stuff that make a huge game, platform, puzzle, beautiful graphics and pixelate animation, RPG elements, a lot of weapons to use and so one. There are a lot of nostalgic elements that make Souldier a great choice.

best metrovania in a while
but that really tell how bad are the latest metroidvania :P i mean it excels at in some expects, like being very difficult and demanding, visually is really nice, the world is huge and mostly nice, controls are responsive and while levelling it's here, it's not a grind to win like most of the late metroidvania( you gan like 1 hp per 3~4 level, most of the enemies deal something like 20 per hit, at level 40 as i'm at late game, you get maybe a hit more to resist). at the same time it does a lot of things really wrong, the pacing is all over the place, at moments it drags badly : why on earth the longest level is the f***n fire temple ?! who had the idea to force you on givin up a equipment slot for the entire fire temple has to win the worse gamedesign award 2022. the totally random chests quest (you have to open like 10 "correct" chest in a pair, with no way to tell the correct one )... i can go on and on for a while :D that said, the positives and the negative give a net positive result (in my opinion) and if you like being constantly challenged, you are in a metroidvania crave and you hate metroidvanias where if you level up enough the challenge disappear, this one is a worthy one.

Chunky but safe metroidvania
The duration stats are somewhat accurate 35 h Main + Sides 60.5 h Completionist I spent 37 hours on it (over a couple weeks) and did everything with the exception of a race with an NPC (too hard - skill issue). It's like a cake, that is ok to eat, but you may be tempted to quit as it's taking too long, but at the same time still feel compelled to complete. The game gives you a dump truck of loot and secondary weapons. I felt that toggling through your secondaries was complete failure as there's ~30 of them and when in the fight, it's not practical to keep toggling through the list as you're taking damage. True, you could pause your way into the menu and equip from there but that is so "flow breaking" that it is not worth it in my opinion. They should have implemented 6 "fav secondary choices" and allowed you a paused weapon wheel type interface for secondaries. It's a lost opportunity. Too many chests and too much pointless loot. The levels are too big also. This game is a multi course meal, and if you want to complete it, you need to know that it will take you some decent time to do. Some modern gaming detractions: There are a lot of furry NPCs. And the blacksmith is predictably a girlboss - tough strong independent whaman, who will win arm wrestling during outro animation and forge your weapon upgrades along the way. Looks like a caricature of the latest Aloy incarnation (of HZD). The armour sets for the main protag and NPCs are the same breastplate and most are androgynous. To the point where you struggle to work out if a char is male or female. Artstyle is subjective and the music to some point but that gets the job done.

A good platformer
A platform RPG with a linear storyline, where progression is provided by routinely acquired items or skills, and a few additional search-and-destroy missions. Don't get me wrong, this formula works. The game is truly great, despite its few flaws. And even though I'm not a fan of platformers, I enjoyed playing it.
