Soldiers: Heroes of World War II drops you into the heart of the most intense WWII combat action. Take control of the most elite American, British, German, or Russian forces ever to impact on the war-zone. Up against overwhelming odds, you must complete your missions incorporating stealth, guile, speed, and aggression.
Mission objectives include blowing up railway tracks, kidnapping enemy officers, and destroying convoys. Be warned that much of this activity will take place behind enemy lines!
Use the fully interactive environment, tools, and equipment around you to complete your objective, the way you want to complete it. Maximize the effectiveness of your squad by assigning tasks relevant to their individual skills. As long as you keep your men alive, you can do whatever it takes to secure victory, nothing is pre-set.

Soldiers: Heroes of WW2 is a fantastic game. The destructable environments, the immense detail in every tank and soldier, and the fast paced tactical combat lead to one of the best WW2 games ever made. The coop mode is probably the best cooperative game I've ever played. Nothing beats playing this game with a friend. If you don't have a friend, though, be careful: it's incredibly difficult. The single player can often be frustrating, considering how much work it is to manage everyone.
I bought this game today and played one Mission in coop, so I have an experience of about 70 Minutes of the game, but I can already tell that this game is worth spending 10 $ on, as long as you like Strategy Games (REAL Strategy, not that stuff you do at Age of Empires or Surpreme Commander!), got at least one friend who is willing to play it with you, and you dont give up after the first 2 failed tries. I never survived the first 5 Minutes of a Mission at Single Player (I need to get a feeling of the game first, how the AI reacts in several Situations, because I LOVE creating Tactics and watch them collapse as soon as I am engaging an enemy), but I managed to play throught a Mission in Coop and it was the biggest fun I had with my PC for at least the last 3 months.
So, if you think this is your kind of game: BUY IT! Right now! Stop thinking about it and just click that Button up there!
I like many of us here at G.O.G. am a fan of world war II games and so may inherently have bias to the genre, but soldiers is one of the best games i have played in a long time.
It is a game that has stood the test of time and remained a part of my collection.
It is a strategic game of small team management and i liken it to the difference between chess and battle chess.
Chess by itself is a classic game of strategy bound in board form, the addition of animation, the addition of a satisfying climax to a decisive movement and the ability to be engaged in owning your own side as if a military adviser without losing sight that the designers protected the original game mechanics creates a game that stands as a gold standard in gaming history.
There are World War II boardgames, there are World War II squad management games (Cannon Fodder), you may even want to consider wether it is worth the experience over a World War II shooter like battlefield 1942 or Return to Castle Wolfenstien; it however combines an experience of a board game management strategy with real time strategy elements paying the appropriate respect to the setting to create a flawless experience.
There are a number of sides to play as, each having a unique campaign.
Being a small team the game allows you to manage strategic placement and rushes with ease.
There are a number of different weapons and vehicles that all have different effects on how you will go about conquering your missions.
The game is satisfyingly hard yet not being overly so, so that just about any gamer should be able to comfortably chip away at the missions to a satisfying victory.
The game is intuitive enough that you can repair a squad of enemy vehicles put a single soldier in each and be able to have the tank combat effective (albeit functioning slower than if it had a full crew compliment).
With that note Soldiers is also very free form in relation to your strategic options allowing you to make sweeping advances, set up sniping positions, hide in long grass or make surprise attacks through building walls using you're acquired armor column >:D.
The graphics are nicely polished and will not detract from it's place in you're games list even with more graphics heavy offerings available such as the newly released wolfenstien.
I purchased the game not long after it's initial release when it had starforce DRM and it managed to win me over enough to complete it; without DRM and at $10 you simply won't regret it.
I just wish the game would start if you have anything above a 1080p monitor. If you have multiple monitors game won't start either. I've now spent hours trying to force it into windowed mode, but it insists on trying to start stretched to two monitors and then proceeds to crash :-(
Does anyone have a solution?
Game was cheap so I decided to buy it. Reviews were really good so figure not much to lose if those are just overrated.
This game is really great and well worth it. I highly recommend it
I played the tutorial which seemed to be pretty good but still end up not understanding # of things (or forgetting that those were covered). I did pretty poorly on the beginning but after watching some walkthroughs on youtube and checking more on the game I finally figured more things and I am doing pretty well now. The one gotcha for me is the keyboard remapping - does not work. One other review mentions the fix for it but I don't want to use that fix so I have to live with that
