A journey into the Northern Peaks

Although the heroes of Caer Cyflen managed to prevent the Soraks' attempt at reopening the Rift to unleash their foul god upon Solasta, the threat is far from over. With the Kingdom of Gallivan suddenly declaring war on their neighbours, there is little doubt that these insidious foes have agents everywhere – and that they always had contingency plans well prepared.

The Palace of Ice DLC is a high level 10 to 16 campaign that will take your party into the frozen lands of the Snow Alliance. The allies of Caer Cyflen need your help now more than ever, for Soraks are not the only foes that have been sighted lately. Other ancestral creatures have joined the battle, and there is little hope for victory without experienced adventurers to face them.

This adventure features:

  • 2 New Ancestries. The Gnome and the Tiefling are now available in the Character Creator!
  • A continuation of the Crown of the Magister Campaign. Unveil the Soraks’ master plan and put an end to this threat once and for all!
  • Returning faces. Import your save file from a previous campaign to continue playing your previous party at higher levels, and meet characters from both CotM and the Ruins of Telema demo! Note that you can also create new characters if you so desire, as they will start at level 10 in Palace of Ice.
  • High-level encounters. Ready yourself, for you are not facing just goblins anymore! Get ever stronger up until level 16 to defeat the mightiest of foes!
  • Co-op with up to 4 players! Just like the two other official adventures, Palace of Ice is ready to be tackled solo or with friends.

New Dungeon Maker content:

  • Four new environments: Mountain Caves (indoor), Dwarven City (indoor), Dwarven Settlement (outdoor), Snowy Hills (outdoor)
  • New monsters: Monsters from Palace of Ice will be available to use in the Dungeon Maker
  • [FREE] New World Map System: Place your locations on one of the three existing World Maps (Crown of the Magister, Lost Valley & Palace of Ice), link them together and add some spice with Random Encounters during travel!
  • [FREE] New NPC Follower System: Create follower NPCs who can join the party (controllable) to give them a hand during combat!

    Free content update for all!

  • Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Halflings and Half-Elves are all receiving 6 new faces to choose from for free (3 Male / 3 Female)
  • Level 12 - 16 are now available in the Dungeon Maker! Note that the Crown of the Magister and Lost Valley campaigns are still locked to level 12 max due to balance reasons.

Brilliant! Great sendoff Solasta.

The saga ends in spectacular fashion with "Palace of Ice". This was the best of the three modules, in my opinion. Though, it was a good bit shorter than I was expecting. The story was solid, I enjoyed the characters (some funny and a bit clunky voicings, but it made it fun), the music is fantastic, and the endgame was very well done. Way more challenging than Lost Valley, but not annoyingly hard. We waltzed through most of the fights (multiplayer) until the endgame where we really had to become seriously tactical. The only bug we encountered (playing multi-player) was that the player not hosting the game would frequently lose connectivity at the beginning of a fight. Annoying, but not a big deal since you could simply reload and let them re-join. Overall, I loved it and wish there were more on the way.

Extra levels but not much else

This DLC exists solely for the purpose of selling you the extra level progression (up to 16). I cannot wait to see what modders will be doing with this, but, the story DLC itself is kind of a letdown. It starts OK, with fun battles and dialogues, but it all goes down from there, culminating in absolutely aggravating final boss battle. Not tough, mind you, just unfair. The design mistakes and unbelievably stupid lighting rules show their ugly faces there (yes, boss with a giant flaming hammer is somehow "unlit"...). To add insult to injury, the level 16 progression is not nearly enough. The devs made sure to shower you with XP in Palace of Ice, so even if you start a new party at level 10, you will spend the last couple of hours locked at the max level with no prospect of further progression. There is definitely enough XP to get you to level 17, maybe 18, and it only gets more frustrating if you import a level 12 party from CotM campaign - then you will get to 16 extremely quickly and will be twiddling your thumbs for good half of the DLC. Why devs insist to arbitrarily level lock you in games I will never understand - this did it, BG3 did it, for no other reason than to punish good players. Buy only if you are Solasta fan, ideally on sale. Buy only to complete your Solasta collection - the other DLCs add much more substantial content: Lost Valley gives you a fun, and much longer campaign, Inner Strength and Primal Calling will be your go-to's for new, fun classes. This is just a cherry on top when you have played through everything else Solasta. Don't expect much.

Great digital intepretation of 5e

To celebrate the next installment of Solasta, I would like to introduce to you my party of heroes: Green the Lowlife Halfling Mountaineer, Piotr the Spy Cleric of Arun, Gertrud the dwarven academic Darkweaver and Eila the greenmage mercenary. With them, I start the adventure from the base game all the way to end of Palace of Ice. Here is my my verdict. This is one of the simplest CRPG I have played. It is not a bad thing. The gameplay and story are very easy to understand. There is no complicated game mechanics because the UI is designed so cleverly that player can learn what each class and item can offer as the game progresses. Because buffing is limited due to "concentration" spell mechanics but consequently you are forced to think tactically. Sometimes it is not about higher number or dice roll. This edition of DnD rules is all about giving yourself advantage and your enemy disadvantage. The enemy is forgiving enough which allows you to get to know their weaknesses and prepare for next time when the encounter is harder. Sure it is better if you know the DnD prior to understand the spells, feats and other mechanics but this game makes it very exciting to learn and discover the synergy. The Palace of Ice itself is great addition to the base game by having new classes and environment mechanics. The environment is also more varied which is always a good thing to see. The story is not that great but it ties up the previous plot nicely. The game stopped being challenging when my party reached the level 14 in authentic mode. If you like the base game, you will like this one too. The whole playthrough is not long at all and you definitely can try different party the next time around.

Disapointing

I really love the base game and played through it multiple times, but this expamsion feels more like work than anything else. I starts out pretty amazing though, the first mayor combat was very exiting, but afterwards you spend most of your time walking around (alot!) and fighting uninspired battles. The story is also confusing. And even the new character levels do not add any exitment or new tactics. Would not recomend.

Solasta fan

I enjoy the Solasta combat system, and here you get some interesting new higher level adversaries. Certainly more fun than relplayingthe Lost valley and Crown campaigns again. In Authentic mode there were no really tough adversaries...then again, I have played some games where the opposite was true, and I was far less happy. Hence overall a big thumbs up!!! thanks
