When the democratic government of Isla Trueno is overthrown, an aggressive and hostile military command rises to power. A highly trained special ops unit is sent in to help the rebels accomplish objectives that only a sniper can handle. In addition to intense sniper missions, players will also take part in a variety of assault scenarios where their prowess with weapons will be a huge help to the undermanned rebels. Sniper: Ghost Warrior seeks to challenge players in new ways so that the game is both demanding and entertaining.

You're a sniper with a very bad luck and the least steady hand in the world. Enemies will hit you as soon as you're discovered, there's no such thing as going around them, they will also spawn as you enter an area. Your allies have aweful aim, unlike the enemy.
Graphics are ok, but you can't enjoy sniping enemies, so it makes no difference.
This is just a bit of "Sniper", not at all "Ghost", maybe a bit "Warrior".
Not worth it. 0/5
As long as nobody notices you, it sometimes really feels like being a sniper. But there is a mission approx. 2 hours after start, where you have to stay on a tower hitting a group of people. After the first shot - everybody - knows where you are and hits perfectly. From their perspective they wouldn't see much more than a little bump on top of the tower. But they hit, and hit, and hit. This also happens any other level, when you are supposed to be visible, even when you aren't. Stopped playing and deleted after that mess. I thought I give that series a try but the first game is not worth the name sniper... Even not the one from the old B movie..
Graphically: its good looking for its time. Environments are pleasing to the eye. Models and Characters are generic looking
Story: Not much of a story. You basically spend the game looking to assassinate some third world dictator. Don't expect to get invested in any of the characters, and the writing is pretty corny, and not in a fun way. But are you really looking for a good story in a sniper game?
Gameplay: You swap between a sniper and a special forces operator. The sniping sections are fun, however, as soon as you fire with an unsuppressed weapon, the enemies all zero in on you instantly, and can hit you hundreds of yards away with ak47s with 100% accuracy. This was on medium.
The special forces sections are abysmal. You deploy in a squad. The problem is, you are supposed to be a top tier operator, and yet your guy couldn't hit the broadside of a barn if his face was shoved in it.
There isn't much replay value. Its not a bad buy on sale, but I enjoyed Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 much more.
This game comes with two premises, which you need to accept if you want to have a good time. One: it's a tactical shooter simulator. Not FPS. You need to think before pulling the trigger. Second: The game has a built-in solution, and your skill is to find it and execute it. Finding your path is comparable to Geometry Dash - follow the level designer. Inventiveness just doesn't pay here. Still with me? Okay, let's dig in.
The shooting part works. Everything else is... welp. Story - default Good Guy among shooters. Sound, acting, voiceover - helpful, but dull. Map design - adequate, with way too many invisible walls (see premise two). You will face the same encounter from the point of view of different characters, and it just does not work. "Who am I? Where am I? What's happening - is it a past or future?".
On the other hand, I was quite surprised with the AI - once you stick to the script that is. If you face hard resistance, you must seek other ways in. Okay, it is stealth, but not in a way we think about it now.
Even on release day I would question myself "how did this pass any sort of QA?". And ten years later? Ouch.
If you know what are you going into, and you want to focus on the physics of long range shootout, then you might enjoy it. And if you're unsure, be advised that sale prices can go as low as 0.80€ - if you want to try your luck. But it's a beginning of something bigger - if you experienced SGW2 or 3, this is the foundation stone. It's just covered in bird poop and it's not in a great neighbourhood. My overall experience wasn't terrible, but that's the best thing I can say about this game.
Everything about this game feels like a generic low budget military fps from the late 2000's. Story is generic, gameplay is janky and you can't adjust the FOV. There's something about this game that is so generic and janky, that it's oddly charming and nostalgic.
