Slipstream

I just cannot figure out how to play this game. For the longest time it showed me a screen telling me to "press A" and I couldn’t get past it either using the keyboard or my gamepad. Then now it tells me to "press X", which works when I press X on my keyboard, but I want to play with a gamepad. My dualshock 4 is not recognized by the game whether I use ds4drv or not. Games should have proper input support out of the box for at least the most common input controllers (and not just the xbox360 gamepad). I already spend my week debugging things, I want games to just work, thank you. Also the developer does not read the GOG forum for the game... (sure, the GOG forums are shit and have no notifications, but if it’s your job you should check them regularly anyway…)

I purchased this one on Steam when it came out. I'm big fan of arcade racers and had initial high hopes of reliving the glory days of the genre. Sadly, I was very disappointed. I could forgive the repetitive graphichs if the gameplay was there but it is not. You may as well be trying to drive a wooden apple crate as a car. Turning is slow and ponderous...the drifting (which is imperative if you wish to win a race) is borderline impossible to engage, never mind master. There is nothing redeemable about this game. It sells itself as nostalgia but what you receive is a big steaming pile of hot garbage.

This game is infuryatingly impossible to play. Even on the easiest setting opponents speed off at the speed of light never to be seen again, the drift mechanic is fun when it triggers - but rarely does -, and the tracks are repetitive and uninspired. Worst of all, the tutorial is actually broken - during the slipstream session I cannot catch up to the car I'm supposed to tailgate, and I kinda doubt I'm too stupid to press down RT on my friggen controller. Do yourself a favour and play "80s Overdrive" on a 3DS instead. Much more fun, better handling, and best of all: portable.

I'm still waiting for some really special racing game to come out on gog.com that I can really enjoy.

I have honestly seen mobile phone games from 10 years ago look and play better than this thing. There is a very fine line between "retro inspired game" and "Slap a retro sticker on the game to excuse the lazily cobbled together mess we created". If you really want to relive the nostalgia of 1980's driving games, instead of buying this pile of absolute trash, you should petition GOG to release a proper retro driving game like "Horizon Chase Turbo" here.
