Cute but ultimately disappointing.

The fun of the game lies in the exploration you get to do with your jet pack that allows you to get almost anywhere you can see but due to its limited stamina can only be used in short bursts which keeps things interesting. Being able to suck up just about anything and shoot it out again is a lot of fun. Too bad your inventory never grows beyond 4 slots, that quickly becomes very annoying to deal with constantly. The downsides of the game are the ranching and the insane grind. There is no real customization of your ranch and what kinds of slimes you get to keep, there is far to little space and the automation options are pathetic. Everything you can buy is only there as a gold sink instead of being actually useful. Combine this with the fact that new stuff to unlock quickly skyrockets in price and the objects you sell quickly plumed in value and you've got yourself nothing but a grind for cash to look forward too. Add onto that a second set of resources you have to grind in addition that come at the cost of your normal resources and the game becomes a nightmare. Plus there's the disconnect that everything you have to do could easily to automated if you actually look at the game worlds tools. You have drones that run on water, you live on an island, there is literally water everywhere yet you have to keep refilling the water in your drones yourself every 5 minutes. Its madness, and absolutely no fun, just an endless grind.

Cute and not much else

Is Slime Rancher a cute game? Absolutely. The sound effects, the colorful environments, and the bouncy slimes are all very squee-worthy. Once you get past the visual adorableness, it almost turns into a first-person clicker-game. You find and hoover up slimes into the gun, shoot them back out into pens, feed the slimes by hoovering up fruits and veggies or chickens, and shooting those into pens, hoover up "plorts" (poop), and shoot those into the "market" to make money...so you can buy stuff that makes the farming more efficient...so you can make more money to buy more things to make farming more efficient...ad infinatum. That's it, in a nutshell. There's some exploration involved to find the uber-slime of a zone and open up the next area which contains more exotic slimes (read: harder to keep contained), but that just feeds the "need better stuff" purchasing treadmill. There's also some "find the hidden area" gameplay, but that shouldn't be confused with actual content. Definitely disappointing after all the hype this game received.

Tedious

The game is cute but I had only fun for one evening. The main problem is that the core gameplay loop is pretty tedious. Harvest crops, feed slimes, harvest their "plorts" (basically their excrements), sell them (or store them to sell later). You have to do this every in-game day which forces you to run around on your ranch for a few minutes every day. The tediousness is compounded by a limited inventory of only 4 item slots which can hold at most 50 pieces of a particular item (which isn’t much in the context of the game), and by a limited energy bar (used for sprinting) which slows you down regularly. The story doesn’t add much. It is only presented as text, and it did not seem all that interesting to me. The world didn’t excite me either. It is all very same-y and not memorable. It’s fun for kids under ten years old. Everyone older should not bother with this game, or at least wait for a sale.

Slime

I love this game. It's a happy game. It makes you happy. No glitches, responsive support, constant updates with new content. It's for people who want to chill ... and behappy. People seeking action or challenges might be dissapointed. What I love most about it: The only thing you shoot is water.

Once upon a ranch...

Hi all. To the point, this game is a lot of fun. You may play it as you wish, but mind it, it's not a sandbox game. You catch slimes, you feed slimes and you sell plots produced by slimes for gold, you use that gold to build up your ranch. Simple? Yes, but don't worry, there is a challenge in that too ;) You can crossbreed slimes. If a slime of one type eat a plot from another, you have a big slime that is both types. Cool, yes? But there is more, in time you will upgrade not only your ranch, but yourself too. Yes, the game is repetitive for someone, but on the other hand, you need to farm things to get things. Nobody will give you anything, sorry. Best part? Exploring a big map with a lot of different places, different slimes, food and well, dangers. A funny game if you need to lover your stress and just have fun.
