Can You Get Home In Time For Tea?

Sir, You Are Being Hunted is a procedurally-generated British horror in which tweed-wearing robots hunt you for sport. Roam the landscape, scavenge for food, hide breathlessly in the undergrowth, flee in terror, and even fight back with stolen weapons.

Sir is a stealth and survival game unlike any other.

Sir, You Are Being Hunted is set on a mysterious archipelago generated by you, and unique for each game. You can define your own islands, each one created in moments by our rather clever British Countryside Generator. These islands are then populated by a raving aristocracy of murderous robots, their robot hounds, and worse. Your job is simply to survive. Search the islands for a means to get home, or die trying. You're not entirely alone, though: The disembodied voice of Walters, your butler, will help you and offer advice.
  • Play as Sir or Madam in a sandbox world that offers infinite replayability.
  • Match wits with a powerful, brutal AI that gets tougher as you play.
  • Immerse yourself in relentless Britishness as you drink tea and eat biscuits while outwitting gentrified aristocratic robots and their hounds.

Looks great, contains almost nothing.

The graphics, sounds, premise, and idea behind SYABH are all top notch, but the gameplay itself is simply lacking in every way and makes the overall experience an exercise in frustration, tedium, and futility. It's a great looking concept that quickly proves itself a terrible game. First, the entire concept of procedurally generated survival stealth is backwards and counter-intuitive in SYABH because exploring bland and unpopulated random landscapes simply isn't interesting when there's nothing else to do. Movement is agonizingly slow. You can't build, you can't craft, you can't make a base, you can't carry many supplies, most supplies are worthless junk that serves no purpose, and as many others have mentioned the lack of 'save anywhere' forces you to stick to the well-traveled path and not stray too far. Again, counter-intuitive for a game that claims to focus on ambience and exploration. The robots are not scary and they aren't even dangerous unless you mod the game to make it harder. Except for making a fire to cook the odd animal carcass I literally can't think of anything else to do in this game outside of the main "collect objects and return them" quest except avoid robots, ambush robots, or distract robots, and these things are interesting for exactly 10 minutes. After only 10 minutes I was excited with the atmosphere and the potential of the game. After only 30 minutes I was absolutely bored to tears and on the verge of uninstalling the game. After researching online and figuring out that, no, there really is nothing else to do in the game except run around and avoid the dumb-as-bricks random robots while mule-packing the stupid monument pieces from all over the map, I did uninstall. I can't believe any praise this game receives for it's gameplay -- it certainly did not come from gamers. It looks great in videos and screenshots, but looking at them is literally more fun than playing the game.

Thanks for the update

I want to thank the game's developer for updating this old game :) It's an old game, but it's fun to play I'm planning to get a new Mac and before I saw that this game was updated, I thought that it wouldn't be playable on the M1, since the old version was 32-bit... but then I saw that there was an update... The 1.5 update is 64-bit, so it should run on new versions of macOS. The single-player game is also an "Universal Binary" now, so it should run natively on M1 (without Rosetta)... The multiplayer game seems to be just a 64-bit Intel binary, but it should run in Rosetta. I'm hoping the multiplayer game eventually becomes an "Universal Binary" also, to kind of "future proof it" better in case Apple eventually stops supporting Rosetta.

Short, but fun for an hour or two

Overall: We had fun for about two hours, but then we felt like we had seen everything, completed the goal. The setting is interesting, but I felt like there should be more to do. There is only this one type of map that you can see in the screenshots. You have to collect shiny pieces ofa teleporter and once that's done you've seen all there is. I wouldn't know why I should replay this game. For another map, that looks and plays the same? I played this game with friends and we had a little trouble setting the game up, but we got it to work. Multiplayer features are pretty basic, you can ping your friends so they see your location on their compass and you can chat. I was quite surprised to learn that the multiplayer is not really coop, but competitive. I only understood that after helping my mates to collect the teleporter pieces. The one that put the last piece in was the winner. The game was a bit of a let down, but not all bad, just very short, very little content.

Just not interesting

Got this as part of a Humble bundle, but I just couldn't get into the game. The idea itself is sort of interesting, but it feels very repetitive. For a couple of $$$ it's probably not the worst entertainment ever, but I wouldn't pay full price for it.

Want a part 2 or other theme!!

Excellent game mechanic. Would like to see this in a medieval, prehistoric, or even a jumanji type port as well. Very odd game in a good respect. I like hiding in the brush, the time of day changes and the AI of the robots. Very hard indeed. Game has alot of mystery about it. It's not for the impatient. You will need to start on easy to understand the mechanics and even at that it is still very hard. You might also have to generate a different world, sometimes it makes the world just too hard.
