In Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity, you are the leader of a civilization embroiled in a galactic war, fighting for the survival of your entire race against relentless foes. Your success will depend entirely on your ability to manage your empire and command your vast fleets of starships to victory.
Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity is a “RT4X” game, blending the epic strategy and empire management of the 4X genre (Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate) with the fast-paced and tactical elements of real-times strategy.
Key features:
Explore the epic scale of a dynamic 3D galaxy featuring planets, asteroids, plasma storms, stars and more.
Take on multiple roles as you seamlessly transition between the role of emperor and fleet commander using Sins’ unique strategic zoom.
Extensive diplomatic and economic strategies are yours to wield to your advantage. Forge alliances, establish powerful pacts with allies to open up new bonuses, setup trade between empires and use pirates to take out over-powered tyrants.
Fight epic battles with hundreds of ships on-screen at once, with up to 10,000 particles firing off in full-out combat.
Seamless zoom in and out, from looking at a one-man fighter to viewing your entire empire spanning billions of kilometers of space.
Defend your worlds by constructing massive starbases, deploying deadly minefields, and researching advanced defensive technologies.
Create strong alliances and gain powerful pact bonuses using the all new diplomacy system.
Bribe or hire pirates to wipe out your opponents, but beware, the pirates gain strength over time and can also be used against you!
Internet multiplayer via Ironclad Online is no longer supported for this game due to GDPR requirements. Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity multiplayer can still be played via LAN or DirectIP, however.
Word of warning: while I wholeheartedly enjoy playing Sins of a Solar Empire and still consider it my favorite 4X RTS, I can't recommend Trinity in this day and age. Just get Rebellion, which includes everything Trinity has and more, and don't look back. Only get this if for some reason you are a purist who wants to experience the pre-Rebellion state of the game.
P.S.: To any hard to convince "purists" :P, let me be doubly clear: Rebellion is literally the same game as Trinity, but with an upgraded game engine and even more content.
Entrenchment, with the introduction of the Starbase is the main reason it became my favorite. I didn't try diplomacy, since I prefer a simpler 4x experience.
I haven't tried Rebellion yet, though I do own it here on GOG. Maybe one day I'll play it, but for now I didn't want to try a more complex game or at least that's the way it appears to me. Maybe I'm missing out on a great experience.
What I liked about the game:
- Good AI opponents (at least the latest version), though there are ways to make the pirates chase you around while you take potshots lol.
- Each new gameplay can be customized. Number of opponents, pirates active or not, AI strength, etc.
- Save anytime feature, so you can play it for short periods or for extended periods. It's your choice.
- Each race had its own capitol ships with advantages and disadvantages. By leveling up, each capitol ship was upgradeable. Which can make a huge difference once you get the final ability.
There are plenty of good points out there, and fans of the game don't need me to point them out. :)
What I don't like about the game:
- I honestly can't think of anything. At least not with the latest version, since I didn't encounter a single bug. There were no frame rate issues either.
I know I should probably try out Rebellion just to compare, but that doesn't change the love I feel for this game. Even if some consider us, ahem..."purists", you can't help how you fell about your favorite games. :)
So definitely recommend this game for us, ahem..."purists". =P
.
I had Rebellion but they dumbed down the AI. Making AI harder just gives it too many resources. My new laptop has 144Hz refresh. The video resolution menu was empty. Fixed it by connecting 60HZ HDMI TV. Remove TV and menu stays full.
