Discover the legacy and embark on the journey to Amerzone. Wishlist now!

From the creator of Syberia 1, Syberia 2, experience Benoit Sokal's fifth game.

At the base of a cliff on Sagorah Island, 82 year-old American billionaire Walter Jones is found dead next to his life's work; a massive Art Deco tower he had dreamed would become an elite getaway for international jet-setters. The only clues found at the scene include his wheelchair, abandoned at the edge of the cliff, and multiple scratches on his face. One of these scratches appears to have been made by a woman. Ten people were present on the island at the time of his death, among them the heirs to his vast fortune and legacy. Was his death an accident or murder?

Players assume the role of Jack Norm, a federal agent turned private dectective, who is taking a break in the atolls of the Indian Ocean when an old friend requests his assistance with the case. Jack has just three days to complete 10 gameplay missions, collecting valuable clues and storing evidence in his PPA (Personal Police Assistant). He will interrogate each of the 10 unusual suspects, using his keen deduction skills to determine who among them may have the most to gain from Walter Jones's death.

KEY POINTS:

  • An engaging and innovative game.
  • Choose between two styles of gameplay to carry out your quest: Time Mode or Adventure Mode
  • Another classic adventure game by French author Benoît Sokal
  • Interrogate each of the 10 unusual suspects, using your keen deduction skills to determine who among them may have the most to gain from Walter Jones's death.

Fairly Standard PnC Mystery but not bad

This is a fairly standard Point and Click Mystery game where you move your character around, gather clue and interview people to help solve the Murder of Walter Jones via a series of steps. It's not amazingly long and some areas of the map do the standard 'flesh out the map' without too much point, but nothing hughly bad or out of the norm. The Game style seamed to scream more 1999-2005 style with the pre-rendered backgrounds and 3D modelled characters, but came out around 2007 so while not 'state of the art', does the job pretty well and no real complants about the graphical style.. However, there are the odd times when you probebly will MISS an item to pick up because it doesn't stand out so a bit of mouse hovering is useful at times to make sure you get everything. The Story isn't too bad and gives some interesting characters, though a fair bit of it seams a bit underdeveloped (I was left with a number of questions unanswered, which is find though a couple of them seamed to be of SOME importantance to the case but oh well, not a HUGE thing). While English is my first language, I did find some of the written Lore material a bit hard to fully read with the fancy fonts, but these are filler more then needed to complete or enjoy the game. Very much a standard but still good short mystery PnC for the early 2000s (despite it's 2007 date). Brought it when on ofter for 59p, and i would say it's clearly find for up to £2 mark but I'm not sure i would say to buy it if it was much higher then that.

A great detective story

Rather a quite difficult adventure, but with a logical inputs and outputs. Spent some 15hrs on it... Sometimes just running up and down the tower :) Slowly putting the clues together. And changing the opinion who might be a murderer. A good adventure with a good detective story. It has some "flaws" like repetitive questions - but you are a policeman, aren't you? :)

Awesome!

Best $1.37 I have spent in a very long time! I played this for several days straight while stuck home with COVID-19 (I'm still fighting it as I write this review). A perfect game for a rainy day. The atmosphere was awesome, the Art Deco designs were glorious, is it perfect? No, but I was kept guessing until the end and was determined to finish it. I must have touched 1000 games, but I rarely actually finish them. I must admit I had to rely on a walkthrough a couple of times that I got stuck, but that's ok, one thing I learned is that even if you examine areas thoroughly, you will not see certain things until you go back "at the right time" so I tried not to beat myself up about that as it's not like I missed a clue, the clue wasn't there until it was time for it to magically appear. Other than a couple of frustrating moments over that, I thoroughly enjoyed this game and will miss it in a way. I won't spoil anything, but I wish there was a better explanation at the end as to one particularly important item and how it goes. I wish there was a way to replay this game and have different culprits, because... well, there is more than one person who had motive here to be sure. Thank you to the people responsible for putting this together!!!

Decent detective game

This game seems like a regular point & click adventure, but it actually requires a bit more effort from the player. You're a detective investigating the case of a dead rich guy and there are twists and turns in the investigation, but the main difference from most games of this kind is that you actually have to figure out what happened yourself. What I mean is that you gather a ton of witness statements, clues, and documents, and then to progress there is this mini-puzzle where you have to put the right pieces of evidence to make a conclusion regarding the events that led to the victim's death. And you really do get a lot of statements in particular, so you have to sort of pay more attention a bit more than in games where the game makes the conclusion for you just from gathering select evidence. Also, it's a Benoit Sokal game, so the environmental themes are present here as well, and actually relate to the story of the game too, which is also interesting. What's not great about the game is that it somehow hogs processing power. I mean it had my CPU fans spinning for no good reason and I had to use a tool to limit this game's resources usage. No reason to put unnecessary wear on my hardware over a retro adventure game. Another not so great thing is that in a couple of instances you have to backtrack for no good reason because a clue spawned somewhere you already visited, or an item appears only after you do specific dialogues. Also, at least once instance of an item that is very hard to see, so it's easy to get stuck on that.

Great story ruined by one bad mechanic

The story is everything one would expect of Benoit Sokal, and the art brings back memories of Syberia in places. The only criticism is the detective wrapup of each section of the case, where you have to pin evidence based on the question asked. Which in itself is a great concept but when your pinning 10 items and getting 1 wrong results in no progress or hint on whats right is brutal. I got through a few without cheating but after looking a few up noticed alot of the questions asked have no bearing on the evidence your supposed to be pinning. This could be a translation issue or a me issue (overthinking). Either way when you get a question such as Why did ... commit the murder? You expect to be pinning a motive, not a means or opportunity evidence like this seems to want you to. However that niggle aside finding the evidence and discussinge evidence was kinda fun, though did feel like a walking simulator most of the time but once I accepted that it was kinda relaxing. Overall though if your a Sokal fan, its worth it for the experience and the artwork. Otherwise I'd say give it a pass theres better detective tales.
