I didn't discover this title until it was released on Steam several years ago as a pre-order bonus. Honestly this game I felt it was only rivaled by Half-Life. It has more of that classic feel and as I remember it did age well. The dialogue between the main character and the other characters was excellent.
It never really got the popularity it deserved as it was released too close to Half-Life. Personally I feel it exceeds Half-Life in some places. Overall I'd highly suggest it.
One of many examples of how the publisher can ruin a great game with a potential. It's only Activision's fault that this game was initially insanely buggy (the first patch had like 100MB - imagine downloading it at about 5kbps at that time). If released properly, maybe it would overshadow Half-Life... However, once patched, the game is perfectly fine and runs smoothly, so buy it without hesitation - it's fun, fast-paced and will surely take you few evenings to finish.
You can say alot about this game, but a hidden Gem no, But Fun, Action Packed Thrills and a story only made for Real Men. Play it it runs on my 4060 GTX i9 so no problems running on all systems :D
The sexy villain and the ridiculous story and writing can be charming for a while, but the game has a lot of issues, like:
- unsatisfying gunplay,
- frustrating controls, especially ladder climbing, jumping, opening doors and containers can all suffer from jank,
- you can get killed by furniture doors or get stuck in the environment quite often.
- The enemy AI and animations are really bad and fighting some of the faster enemies can be very frustrating, although I got better at killing the enemies I never felt any satisfaction from the fights, which is a major issue for a game of this genre.
- There are some really boring parts where I had no fun at all (all the underwater parts).
- Lackluster final boss fight (very easy to cheese).
Some levels had interesting elements, like using computers to disable security systems or infiltrating an area in disguise, but they are interrupted with cheap nonsense that is thrown your way, like a part where you control a vehicle, that has really awful controls or enemies spawning around you endlessly. Overall I do not recommend this game unless you really need an FPS and you have played all the better ones already. That being said some people really seem to have enjoyed the game, so maybe it is just not my gem.
