Big fan of HALF-LIFE here, I always read SIN is a great game. Well it's not. Just a poor shooter wich could be a mod like gunman chronicle. It's boring. I think SHOGO is a better game...
Back in '98, it has been told that Sin is the perfect mix of Duke Nukem and Quake 2. I am happy to say that it was true, SIn is one of the best FPS ever created by Ritual. Dynamic and changing gameplay, exciting story to catch Alexis Sinclair, challenging and interactive environment. The mission pack is even shorter, but also a perfect one, where you need to pursue the evil gangster, Manero.
It is a particular event here in GOG the release, so catch it, buy it, you just need to pay 10 dollars for a great game. Highly recommended.
Got this because I never played more than the demo way back when, and I was curious what the rest of the game was like.
I must admit I was unimpressed. The bank level was a pretty good introduction, with the memorable pigeon flight, some decent gunplay and Demolition Man-inspired near-future setting, but from there it's mostly downhill with bland enemies, weapons, levels and bosses.
The entire game feels very crude and dated, from its '90s macho/playboy attitude to the reliance on labyrinthine keycard levels. It gives off the impression that it was haphazardly put together without any real sense of direction or thought behind it, and while perhaps not a terrible game there's definitely a reason for its lack of popularity when you look at something like Half-Life released at the same time.
Dated by its severely limited AI and arcade sensibilities, The enemies are merciless in their respawning and their perseverance despite their mental deficiencies. They also behave like bullet sponges for the most part.
Imagine the worst bits of Goldeneye combined with the worst bits of Duke Nukem.
