The Silent Storm series brings you two complete games that both provide with you a wealth of turn-based combat against the backdrop of World War II and beyond. It’s the year 1943 and you must lead a group of operatives as they assault against the enemy, wreak havoc on their operations, and find out what new power threatens both sides. After the dust settles from the war’s end, you must find and destroy the remnants of the organization known as “Thor’s Hammer.”
Silent Storm Gold features a fully destructible 3D world with ragdoll physics and non-linear gameplay. Play the game your way: engage in stealth and quietly take out your enemies or take the more direct route with a rocket launcher. Choose from over 40 operatives in each game, for a total of 80 unique personalities and skills, and arm them with over 75 different authentic and painstakingly-researched weapons. As far as squad command turn-based strategy games go, this one will surprise you with its great complexity and fantastic alternate reality setting.
This bundle includes S2: Silent Storm and S3: Silent Storm - Sentinels add-on.
Destructible environment opens up tactical options, whether it’s flushing an enemy out of a building via rocket launcher or knocking holes in a wall to make a field-expedient shortcut.
Multiple paths to complete the mission. Use brute force or stealth tactics across 3 different difficulty levels.
Unprecedented realism featuring true 3D, a fully destructible environment, and real projectile physics that take into consideration trajectory, speed, and piercing performance.

I loved this game back in the day and its still fun! Best part is GOG made this work on modern systems. So far I love giving GOG my money. The games work! Unlike steam which has sold me classics that wont even boot up. Talking about Ground Control 2. They wont even refund. Any way back to this game. Its a blast. Worth every dime.
Many hours of enjoyment. Replay very good as you have many different members to select for your team. The amount of weapon selection will change the game during replay also,
The random encounters may be not so random. However, this is just to get you ready for the next mission as they are increase in difficulty as you follow the story line. At some point you will be ensnared to want to get to the next mission, as you just can't waite to see ...what's next.
An older game, but still up and above par in comparison to many newer games you see today.
While the graphics of this game is not that of a neww modern (2012) game then this is defenitely worth playing (for those that like the genre ofcourse).
The game-play offers experience point that can be added to the characters where there are more tree like set of abilities that one must choose to enhance to develop character skills...
Game-play also offers that you can both loot along the way and equip the characters both before going into battle and with whatever you can pckup during mission that the character(s) can use , carry and have in inventory.
The games(s) might not appeal to all but I got the game(s) on disc(s) myself and have spent many hours playing them. The only thing that bothers me has been that at least one of the missions (where a factory explode if you kill its leader) can be very hard to get through....
Silent Storm is the best...I'm not just saying that
There are only two games that I call my favorites of all time. Games that I come back to over an over, playing avidly, despite the advancement of years. The two games are Silent Storm and Civ IV:BTS. I still play Civ IV almost daily and I'm heavily involved in that community.
This issue with Silent Storm is that after only a couple of years, Nival neglected the game. The game was never updated or fixed to accept the newer OS's and video cards, basically becoming unplayable. I did find a hex editor fix for S2 but nothing for Sentinels, which is IMO the best and most intense expansion to any game ever.
GOG has finally remedied this by fixing Silent Storm and adding it to the catalog. I actually put in a request for this game here a year or so ago. Not sure if that is why it is here, but I sure am glad.
Anyway, this is a review so I will say a few things to enlighten newcomers. There are already a lot of great reviews here going into the details about the game
So what I will say is that this is one of the best Turn Based
Strategy games of all time. However, it was poorly marketed at the time it came out (2003/2004), so despite great reviews it never really sold well in the US, despite having a strong cult following overseas.
SS is basically the evolution of XCOM and Jagged Alliance games. The big deal here is an advanced 3D graphic engine that was revolutionary for its time. Let me assure you it holds up quite well today. In fact, even with all the shiny, glossy and shallow games you see released all the time nowadays, I think SS will always be a playable game for eternity. The destructible environments here are more fun that you can imagine and offer to unique strategic/tactical possibilities.
In short, SS is a tactical squad-based TBS set in WWII. It starts out very conventional as your group of six soldiers of different classes (Soldier, Scout, Sniper, Medic, Engineer and Grenadier) perform covert missions in the heat of WWII, basically outside the scope of the traditional battles. You can mix and match the classes in the group as you wish. Gradually, the game takes on somewhat of a Sci-fi element as you realize you are battling a secret organization inside the Third Reich that are developing some unique and powerful weaponry. You can play as Allies or Axis solders with diverging/converging story lines.
Sentinels, the expansion, is just one of the most intense expansions/games I've played. It is truly exceptional and immensely challenging. The game adds some new features and takes on even more of RPG elements as you post WWII soldiers now take on a terrorist threat shortly after the war. There are some divergent paths here as you an select different missions that open up new missions. Just let me say now that there are some missions in Sentinels that will blow your mind. Some of which I spend 24 or more hours playing glued to the screen. Pure awesomeness. Very challenging expansion - definitely play the original first to get the combat and tactics down first.
Buy Silent Storm Gold! Play Silent Storm Gold! There is nothing to think about. Truly one of the great hidden gems in the world of gaming!
Yeah, you heard me right, Panzerklein, Armour Pants! Klein means pants right? Yes, there is a lot of controversy of the PKs but I LOVE THEM! If you have not played this and are feeling wary of purchase, check out one of the many lets plays to see the PERSONALITY in each and everyone of the characters!
It is the best turn based strategy game I have ever played, bar none. Its the engine that does it. If X-Com and Jagged Alliance had the same engine, this would be left in the dust.
