Its Alright
At the time of initial release I found this game frustrating, with poor performance on console. I was so excited for this game so I pushed through it and never really found much enjoyment. I finally got the chance to play the game at a higher frame rate (this runs at 30 fps, but LosslessScaling gets it to 60) and its a decent game but nothing too special. The combat like most Silent Hill games isn't great. With the exception of the Apartment itself, the level design isn't as creepy or scary as 1, 2 or 3. This game has a sort of different vibe from the other Silent Hill games, and although I can see why some would like it, I personally do not. Rather than just the characters being awkward and weird in Silent Hill 2, in 4 the entire game is awkward and weird. The biggest issue that frustrates me is how there are items that are not just useless but make the game harder without telling you, and weapons that are worse than your starting weapon in every way imaginable. Its decisions like these that feel like a gamey punishment, rather than anything that fits within the theme. I think this is a game people who are huge Silent Hill fans, AND want to see a different interpretation of the formula. This should NOT be your first Silent Hill game.

One of the Greats!
I played this gem back in '04 on the Xbox, and every decade the room calls to me. SH4 is not without its flaws, but I think the pros outweight the cons. Cons: -Lack of a tank control system (2D vs 3D controls) -Repeat return to worlds -Muted colours -Only 1 hard puzzle -Only 2 guns -Blank slate of a main protagonist -Escort missions Nitpicks: -Limited inventory -No flashlight due to bright levels -Victim presense AOE damage Pros: -Terrifying enemies (The Victims, Twins, ect...) -Difficult combat -Several melee weapons -Good graphics for 6th gen -Dynamic shadows -Decent SFX design -Interesting story -Good soundtrack -Decent antagonist -Multiple endings -Decent character designs -Decent animations -Eerie atmosphere -New game plus+ -Unlockables Some may be wondering why I'd want tank controls. It is because tank controls work best with this game's fixed camera system. When we move, another camera will take over the scene which makes us lose control of the character. All and all this game is worth playing!
