Silent Hill 4: The Room

My first time trying out any of the many Silent Hill games. Despite being the forth installment in the series it is still a great introduction to the universe of Silent Hill's psychological horror. The game presented itself to me as a best-seller visual horror novel even being highly interactive. This is a must try if you would like to get some footing on the hills. Truly a masterpiece.

The game runs great on low-end specs. You can expect a stable 30FPS 1440p experience on Intel i5-8250U and Intel UHD Graphics 620. If you try to run the game at 60fps, the combat mechanics are unusable. You will be unable to move around while readying your weapon, so it makes combat unbearable. The final boss battle also has issues with 60fps, so you are basically left with the option to just play at 30fps. The PC version is also missing 6 of the 14 hauntings, leaving only 8 in this version. I also recommend using XInput Plus to fix issues with controller compatibility, so you can then use the right analog stick properly.

Disclaimer : I have not yet bought the GOG version (although i will in time), so this review is just for the game. Ahhh, SH4. How i love you. I always read mixed opinions on this game and since i played the other 3 i decided to try this as well. I had a vague memory of playing the first 20-30 minutes in an internet cafe and remembered that i liked it, so let's go ! After finishing the game -years ago- i still don't understand why it is not up there with the other 3 as a great game ! I had SO much fun ! The premise is simple. You control a man named Henry which wakes up one day and finds out that he can no longer exit his apartment (play the game to see why !). Growing more anxious and afraid he tries contacting others but to no avail. A few days pass by and Henry -to his horror and fascination- discovers that his bathroom wall now has a giant hole with no clue as to how or why it got there in the first place. Having no other way out of his apartment he decides to enter it and find out if he can get out that way..... The story is interesting as are the characters, the gameplay is classic SH fun and the soundtrack is great ! Play this game people ! It is the last great game in the main series (i say main since Shattered Memories is good too imo) !
