Take on the role of the Hero in a richly detailed world filled with hundreds of unique NPC`s, monsters ripped from ancient lore, and invading nomadic hordes.

PLAYED ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

Dive into the story of deception, treachery, and heroism through rich dialogues and in-game tomes. The game was designed with the idea of being a new type of book that gives a feeling of full immersion into its fantasy world.

FULL ANTHOLOGY

Get immediate access to the full game. Chapters one, two, and six lead you through the main story, while third, fourth and fifth chapters present the expansions that allow you to delve even further into the lore and adventures.

IT'S BEEN 20 YEARS. WILL IT RUN?

We are happy to bring back to life the "Siege of Avalon: Anthology". The game received its portion of technical care and now runs on modern operating systems without any extra shenanigans. The story, visuals, and gameplay are untouched - with all its charm and flaws. Enjoy playing the game on Windows 7 or later, improved stability and widescreen support.

OPEN-SOURCE

For all the years since the original release, Siege of Avalon had an incredible community around it. Once developers made the game's source code available, many fans put their time and efforts to ensure the game lives. We also want to contribute to the open source movement.

Returning to the game 20 years later

I didn't know this was in the making, so I was pleasantly surprised! So much so that I have sunk 5 hours into the game already, which for me these days is a lot of time :) What a throwback. Highly recommended if you like immersive stories (which in this case means reading a lot), and combat that is a bit more than just right clicking. 10 outta 10! Do mind that I am highly nostalgic about this one :) The only gripe I have is that while the game looks great in FullHD, the UI and text get veeeery small and hard to read.

A game from childhood

I played this game 2 or 3 times in childhood since its release, and only now I was surprised to learn that it turns out that you can create a woman character !!! (and it seems that even the localizers of the game in Russian did not know about this - all the dialogues are designed for the character of a man). This is a good chance to introduce my girlfriend to this game !!! The technical side: the GOG version works surprisingly well, although it does not support borderless windows and breaks after minimizing the screen. P.S. To change the character's gender, you need to click on the barely noticeable triangles to the left or right along the edges of the character's portrait on the character creation screen.

Well worth playing, if you're patient

Let me start with being completely up-front. I have a *huge* history with this game, more than is reasonable to summarize in a review. So I will leave that all out, and try to give a frank discussion for those who are considering it. First, if you are looking for engaging or subtle combat, this is not the game for you. Same with stats building. The model is interesting, but it's highly flawed. Combat mechanics are the weakness of the game. I want to love the system so much, but it just tears you apart at certain points. That said, if you're looking for world building, this is a solid game. There's really good writing, and decent, though sometimes predictable, plot. The overall world, however, is top-notch, at least for my preferences. It differentiates itself from most high fantasy by making itself believable as an alternate human history. Yes, there are Orcs, Ogres, magic, etc. But it's also clear the writers and/or designers spent a lot of time researching medieval history. Your character sees the suffering, starvation, disease, and the like that exists in war, and in a siege, and the decisions that would occur in that era. And that's what attracted me to the game. So the point is, if you enjoy world-building and running around talking to interesting people, then doing some mediocre exploration and fighting, this is for you. If you expect it to be Diablo because it has combat and it's isometric, then stay away. [Finally, ignore people saying there are game breaking bugs. I should have said, the quests are sometimes "get good" style in that they don't hold your hand. Everyone I see saying there's a bug, just didn't properly complete the quest. And maintain multiple save slots, because you can get into pretty much unsurvivable situations sometimes.]

The game that made me a CRPG fan

Siege of Avalon is an amazing, criminally underrated game. I first played this game when I was 8 and I still have the original Anthology CD. The plot's very well written (especially chapter 4. Don't. Skip. It!) and the RPG mechanics, while a little clunky from a modern eye is a good attempt at combining Diablo with Baldur's Gate. And, in a novel turn away from your typical RPG, the sidequests make sense in the context of the world. You won't have NPCs ask to you catch butterflies when there's a dragon about to swallow the world. If you do pick up this game, keep in mind that it is fairly old and you're won't find some of the creature comforts that are present in a more modern game. The difficulty is fixed and fairly steep. It is very easy to become an immortal god by chapter 6 if you pick mage or one-shot snipe everything (including the final boss) if you pick rogue. Your NPC companions have horrible AI and will generally get in your way more than help you. Having said all of this, if you liked the original Baldur's Gate games, you will love Siege. You'll love the ambiance, the plotline, the lore. And when you finish the game, you'll be gutted that the overwhelming success of Baldur's Gate 2 was largely the reason why there isn't a second Siege game.

Thank you so much.

Siege of Avalon was a staple of my childhood. The graphics, the art, the lore, the soundtrack; I got so lost in the game. The combat didn't matter, the story did and there was so much dialog and detail you just spent all of your time reading; it really was an interactive story book. I absolutely adore the game and it's a gaming memory I'll never forget.
