It's complicated
There is, for some reason, no better pirate game. Nothing will feel quite so much like a swashbuckling action adventure movie. It is a joy with surprising depth. This is, for some reason, the best version of this game. This is a port of the turn-of-the-century XBOX release, a reboot of the original. This is unmistakably a janky XBOX port.

A simple game, stretched too thin.
The problem I have with this game is that it's shallow. It's a bunch of different genres in one, meaning that there are a lot of things to do, but nothing is particularly complex or refined. I can totally see the appeal, it's a very unique game, and it's fun for a few hours, but it just became repetitive after a short while and I lost interest. If you're looking for a pirate game you can play casually, it might be the game for you. But if you're looking for something with more depth to it, it won't be.

Great game, Broken on GOG
DON'T BUY. Game itself is AWESOME, but GOG version doesn't work. I have the original cd of this game but my new laptop doesn't have an optical drive. Bought it on GOG but it won't run on modern systems. I have tried the new config.ini fix and re-downloading the directx from microsoft, but all to no avail. I get the "failed to initialize directx" error on startup (as reported by many, many others) every time, without any changes from all the suggested fixes on the internet.
